6 Secrets to Living a Balanced Life

There are many times in which you will hear me talk about having success in life. We all strive for that, success is important to us. There are no shortcuts, it takes commitment and a good work ethic.

In my previous business, my life was completely out of whack. My entire life was committed to being successful in that business. I was working seven days a week achieving such but sadly, in other areas of my life, there weren’t a lot of triumphs. I did not have proper balance. What good is it to have success in your business world but fail in other areas of your life?

I have been in this business for 18 years and have achieved great success, but I also want to make sure I have prosperity in every other area of my life. I admit I don’t have all the answers, but do I know what doesn’t work.

With Retriever Merchant Solutions, you do not have to work seven days a week to have success. You don’t have to go on the road 50 weeks out of the year. Many of you know that I leave my house at 7 AM or earlier each day and I’m usually home by 6 PM each evening. I do that Monday through Friday and take every weekend off.

If you work a disciplined schedule and stick to it, I promise you will enjoy your time off. The problem is that many people take too much time off. Because of this, they lose momentum.

The reality is because of an undisciplined schedule, many of the times when they are taking time off, they don’t enjoy it because they feel as if they should be working. Let me encourage you to make sure you work a consistent schedule and give 100%. This way, you will find you enjoy your time off much more.

So what are the secrets to living a balanced life? It all boils down to these 6 areas. Take a look at each one and rate yourself from 1 through 10 with 10 being the highest. Remember, we are all under construction. Look for ways to improve that number as a way to begin leading the kind of balanced life you are seeking.

1) Physical health.

No matter who you are, it’s easy to let things like exercise and diet go by the wayside, especially when you get busy. While you are here on this earth, this is the only body you’re going to get and you need to make sure you take care of it as you are on your success journey.

It’s important to continue keeping your body strong and healthy enough to help you do the things necessary to enjoy life. Start today. Make the commitment to exercise and eat healthy. You will be thankful you made this choice.

2) Family.

Family ties are the most important relationships you should have in your life no matter how busy you become. Family members are truly part of your support network and they are valuable for your success. Make a commitment and set aside time to spend with them. You will be thankful and so will they.

3) Social.

Your life can’t be just about work. I have made a commitment to enjoy the heck out of life. Make sure you have a group of friends with whom you love to spend time. Having people around you that you like and trust will help you enjoy a long healthy life.

Have fun, enjoy life, and have a blast!

4) Finances

As I’ve gotten older, I have become very passionate about this area. You can be as wealthy as you want to be. This is all about having a financial plan. Are you investing in long-term financial programs? The key to personal financial health is to feel in control and know you have enough money to have options.

Make a commitment to become debt-free and then start building wealth. If you’re having trouble in this area, find a mentor that will guide and help you.

5) Business.

When it comes to our business, there is a slogan many of you have heard me say, “Having fun and making money.” When you are having fun, you are making money. When you are making money, you are having fun. Sometimes we can get into a funk or a rut, and we stop enjoying what we do. We have to be careful here because this is when the mind will start playing tricks on you. When someone gets to this stage, they tend to overthink and overanalyze and without even knowing it, all of a sudden, most of the thoughts start becoming negative.

Repeat the things that made you successful. It’s time to start refocusing and set some goals, get excited about them, and then go for it.

6) Spiritual.

I saved this for last, because to me it is the most important one. I have found that if I’m not consistent and do not have a proper balance in this area, my relationship with God tends to fade. God never leaves me. I am the one that chooses to not be close to Him.

I meet with a group of men every Thursday for a Bible study and prayer time. This is an area of my life that I need. I also serve in several ministries. I don’t say this because I’m bragging or feel that I am more spiritual than anyone else. I love to serve because it draws me closer to God and I feel much more connected.

Finding balance in these six areas isn’t always easy, but it is important. Set your goals to be the best you can be in our business but also go beyond that and be number one in all of these areas. After you have written down the number where you are in each area, set a goal on how you can improve, make a plan and then simply go for it.

May you have a super balanced week and be the best you can be in all areas of your life.

Be blessed always!
