Don’t Let the Naysayers Win

As you are on your Journey to success, there is no doubt you will find naysayers along the way. What is a naysayer? This is someone who is discouraging you from pursuing your goals and dreams. They will make statements like, “It’s impossible!” In fact, some will tell you that you’re crazy.

It is especially true with our opportunity. They will tell you it’s not realistic to become successful. I recall when I first started in direct sales, family members and close friends encouraged me to get a job with security. Although most meant very well, the one thing I have learned is that people who are not in life where you want to be cannot show you how to get there.

If you really reflect on the reason naysayers try to scare you from achieving your goals, it’s because most of them have lived their lives in fear so they are constantly thinking and making decisions based on this fear. Coming out of their comfort zone scares them to death.

It’s very unfortunate, but you need to remember that these are their fears not yours, and there’s no reason why you should own their fears about your goals. Your life is yours.

When you face naysayers, here are some helpful tips.

1) Protect your goals.

Your goals are very precious. It’s important that you protect them. Don’t give naysayers the opportunity to damage your dreams. Be careful who you share them with.

The early stages of goal setting are the most vulnerable and it’s imperative that you share them mainly with people who are going to encourage you and lift you up. If a person is mostly negative and discouraging, it’s probably not a good idea to share your plans with them.

2) Look where the naysayer is in life.

Before you get anyone’s advice, it’s always good to ask these questions.
– Is this person living a life that I want for myself?
– Is the person successful in the goal that I am pursuing?
– Does this person have knowledge and experience with what they are commenting on?

If the answers are no, I would discount what they are saying. Find the people that are successful and take the advice from them.

3) Avoid arguments

Remember this, you are passionate about your goals, but naysayers are strong in their views too.

Choose to be positive with them. Don’t fight back or even explain your stance. You will just get frustrated and it becomes a waste of time. Remember, most of the time their goal is to discourage you. Change the subject, and be very positive and encouraging.

4) Surround yourself with people who will help you.

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, so choose five great people to spend time with as opposed to hanging out with the naysayers. Your goal is to create a network of success.

Find the people who are supportive of your goals, or you know would be supportive if you told them, and increase the time you spend with them.

If, at this point, you don’t have a lot of people like that in your life, it’s time to start reaching out to people who are where you want to be.

5) Constantly visualize success.

Always keep your eyes on your goals. Recall exactly what you want to achieve. Reflect on exactly what you want to get out of your life. This will keep you focused.

Life is very short, don’t deny yourself of the life you should live just because of naysayers. Also, this is a great lesson for us, make sure you’re not being a naysayer to others. When people share their goals with you, make sure you are encouraging and supportive.

Remember this, most people when they began to share their dreams and exciting goals with others, they were called crazy. Once they achieved their goals, all of a sudden they became geniuses. It’s amazing how that works.

Never allow anyone to steal your dreams. I’m rooting for you. Let’s make it happen.

Blessings and success to all.
