Shift Your Fears into Excitement

Even the top salespeople sometimes struggle with fear. Everyone wants to be successful, but sometimes fear or anxiety can get in the way.

Starting today, I would like to help you take that fear and turn it into excitement. Many years ago when I was in the encyclopedia sales business, someone told me to take that nervous energy and turn it into positive. The only way to overcome fear is simply to get excited about what you are doing, and take action.

Today, I’m going to give you some tips to help shift your fears, about sharing the amazing programs you have to help merchants, into excitement.

1). Discover the cause of your fear

It is necessary to know what we are actually fearful of. Fear comes in several forms. We worry about being rejected or being perceived as bothering somebody. Let’s find out the source of your fear. It could even be a combination of things. This is an important part of overcoming it.

2). Take action

Once you have figured out what your sources of fear are, it is time to take action to address them. For example, if it is a fear of rejection, you can now find ways to bounce back, which will be much easier if you don’t take this rejection personally.

Understand the word “No” is a big part of the process of getting to “Yes.”

3).  Get excited about what you are offering

One of the best ways to overcome fear is to get passionate and enthusiastic about what you are offering. Write out all the amazing features and benefits that your merchant gets from having our service.

Let this be a reminder each and every day about how wonderful your programs are. By doing this, you’ll find that your confidence will soar.

4). Quit selling and start helping

As I always say, we are not in the convincing business. Think differently about who you really are. Imagine walking into a business as though you were a counselor there to help them.

Change your entire perspective into helping people rather than trying to convince them.

5). Start small and build confidence

This is especially true when it comes to cold calling. Many times people tend to overthink this. The name of the game is no matter what, just start contacting businesses.

One of the things you can do to help build your confidence is to simply start out by doing quick stop-bys. For example, you’re letting them know that you are very busy and you just stopped by for a moment to drop off your card. Tell them you’re helping a lot of people in the area and you didn’t want them to miss out. Grab their card and let them know you’ll call them back. You will be amazed how many great opportunities you will get from this. Bottom line: no matter what, just get out there and start contacting merchants.

6).  Have fun

How many times have you heard me say this? “Having fun and making money.”  It is such a true statement. When you go out into the field, make a decision to have a blast. Enjoy every moment. Don’t go to work. Go to fun.

7). Stay focused

When was the last time you looked at your dream sheet and your goals? Perhaps some of you have not even written out your goals. This is absolutely necessary in order for you to have success.

Write out all your goals. Make a plan. Review them constantly and go for it.

Successful people take action and they reach their goals because they are focused on the benefits. Remind yourself what you want, why you’re doing this, and then take action.

8). Stay on top of all your successes

People who are struggling with fear often focus too much on all their failures. Because of this, they tend to lose confidence.

It is important to have a success journal. Write down all your positive achievements and give yourself a pat on the back. Never get down on yourself. Constantly build yourself up and reward yourself for your successes.

9). Follow the Success Plan

Everything we teach you here at Retriever Merchant Solutions is all part of your success plan. Understand that if you follow the plan, have a positive attitude and go to work consistently, you will have success.

Sometimes we get too focused on making the sale rather than giving a great enthusiastic presentation.

The system works. It is proven. People are having success all over the country. You can have the same amount of success if you just follow the plan.

10). Keep going

The only way to get good at something is to keep doing it. I can watch Larry Bird shoot three pointers all day long and he will make it look easy but in order for me to be a good three-point shooter, I have to take his techniques and start practicing.

I see representatives in our business that get so caught up in wanting to make sure they know everything, but they never really get out there consistently enough to apply themselves.

Yes, you will make mistakes. You will have failure but that is all part of having success. Make the commitment to just get out there and go for it.

Today is your day. This is your week. Make a commitment to not look back and go for it 100%. By doing this, watch your confidence soar and your success grow!

Believe and achieve and have a fantastic week!
