How Baseball Is Leading the Way in Sustainability

Every year, the not-for-profit organization GSBS (Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport) publishes a list indicating the sustainability performance of professional sports organizations. Currently, Formula E holds the pole position, though baseball lovers, take note! Baseball is also on the green side of the list, alongside American football, ice hockey, and handball. Indeed, Major League Baseball (MLB) and its 30 clubs have supported sustainability efforts since 2019 via its GREEN TEAMS initiative. The latter encourages environmental awareness during MLB All-Star events, providing education, collecting recyclables, and raising awareness among fans. Over the past five years, the MLB has shown that baseball is much more than an entertaining game; it is also a sport that can make a real difference.

Energy Challenges

Baseball fields are sizeable, and a typical stadium can use an astounding 10 megawatts of power (enough to power 8,000 American homes) during each game. On average, major league baseball generates some 5.6 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Stadium lighting, bars, food concessions, and live broadcasts make the game energy-intensive. Games in big stadiums can generate as much as 35 tons of waste, ranging from energy and water to food.

Greener Practices

Baseball clubs are going all-out to reduce their carbon footprints and make a difference to the planet. Initiatives include the use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels on roofs and parking structures and wind turbines that have been integrated into stadium design. Clubs are also embracing efficient LED lighting systems and automated lighting controls to minimize energy wastage. Water conservation is another important goal, and clubs are achieving it via efforts such as rainwater harvesting and aerated faucets. In March 2024, the New York Yankees, for instance, installed a cutting-edge water-cooled modular chiller plant that cools the stadium while providing enhanced efficiency. Green transport, construction, and the use of green roofs to regulate temperature and reduce stormwater runoff are also holding sway. Also noteworthy are waste disposal methods. In 2023, 70 tons of waste were diverted from landfills across host stadiums, achieving a 72% recycling rate. The Series also saw 15 tons of organic waste composted.

Eco Warriors Who Bat and Pitch

Baseball players are also taking up the fight against global warming and energy wastage. A quick search into the lives of famous baseball players will reveal the extent to which many value green initiatives. For instance, Brent Suter of the Milwaukee Brewers/Colorado Rockies has been vocal for many years about climate change. Having studied environmental science at Harvard and worked on projects like tree planting for every team win, he also launched the Brewers’ sustainability council and is known for participating in a host of local environmental efforts, including urban gardening. Then there is Chris Dickerson, a former MLB outfielder who founded Players for the Planet. Or what about the New York Met’s Francisco Lindor, who has taken part in community cleanups in Puerto Rico and partnered with Players for the Planet to restore natural resources and promote environmental awareness?

Feeding the Hungry

An important part of sustainability involves ensuring that every individual has enough to eat. The MLB has adopted a host of programs to recover food and reduce poverty. In 2023, some 6,000 pounds of food were recovered and donated. Thanks to these efforts, around 5,000 meals were provided to those in need. The LA Dodgers have been particularly active in this respect. In 2023, the Dodgers donated 14,040 pounds of food to the Midnight Mission, while also collecting 35,740 pounds of aluminum and 19,110 pounds of plastic for recycling.

Celebrating Green Events

The MLB activates a wide range of initiatives across various platforms during key events such as Earth Week. MLB employees are encouraged to take part in events such as sprucing up baseball fields through reseeding, mulching, and removing weeds and invasive plants. Some clubs host electronic waste collection drives, asking fans to donate old or unused local electronics and giving them ticket vouchers to home games in return. Others are hosting beach and garden clean-ups.

Baseball is showing that it is a sport with a green heart. The MLB and its members are adopting numerous initiatives to show their commitment to a greener planet. These include the use of renewable energies, water saving, and participation in clean-ups on beaches and in parks and gardens. They are also going above and beyond to reduce wastage and feed those in need.

Essential Features to Look for in Field Service Management Software

What makes field service management software truly valuable for businesses? Effective tools enhance efficiency and improve client satisfaction. Let us explore the essential aspects to consider.

Automated Scheduling and Dispatch

Automated scheduling is one of the top features to consider when looking at Jobber alternatives or any other field service management software. Managing appointments manually can lead to errors, double bookings, and missed opportunities. Automated scheduling allows businesses to assign jobs based on technician availability, location, and skill set. This feature reduces scheduling errors and ensures the right person is assigned to each job.

Dispatching also becomes more efficient with automation. Dispatch managers can adjust assignments in real-time, addressing changes like last-minute appointments or delays. This flexibility enables better use of time and resources, keeping operations smooth. Automated scheduling and dispatch lead to improved punctuality and productivity, key factors for client satisfaction.

Real-Time Communication and Collaboration

Effective communication tools in field service software keep everyone connected, from office staff to field technicians. Real-time messaging allows instant updates, ensuring all parties know schedule changes, job details, or specific client requests. Clear communication minimizes errors and ensures work is carried out according to client requirements.

Collaboration features allow workers to access important documents, job history, and client preferences on their devices. With easy access to relevant information, technicians can perform their tasks accurately and efficiently. Better communication raises the standard of services overall and lowers the possibility of misunderstandings. Real-time updates also allow teams to handle unexpected situations promptly, maintaining a smooth workflow.

Inventory Management for Field Operations

Field service software that includes inventory management makes tracking equipment, parts, and supplies simple. Tracking items used on each job helps prevent shortages and ensures that the necessary supplies are available when needed. Inventory tracking also allows businesses to monitor stock levels closely, avoiding last-minute delays.

Efficient inventory management also reduces costs by preventing overstocking or emergency orders. Automated notifications when inventory is low help maintain the right stock levels. This feature also simplifies the task of reordering supplies, saving valuable time. Managing inventory effectively keeps field operations running smoothly and ensures technicians have what they need.

Invoicing and Payment Processing

Field service software with invoicing capabilities simplifies billing, making it fast and accurate. Automated invoicing generates clear, itemized bills based on job completion, helping to ensure prompt payment. Technicians can log hours worked, materials used, and any additional charges directly in the system. This transparency benefits both the business and the client.

For improved flow, here are some advantages of automated invoicing:

  • Accuracy: Reduces human errors in billing
  • Speed: Saves time by automating invoice creation
  • Clarity: Provides clear, itemized invoices to clients
  • Timeliness: Sends invoices promptly upon job completion
  • Payment Tracking: Monitors outstanding balances effectively

Data Analytics and Reporting Tools

Data analytics and reporting in field service management software provide valuable insights into business performance. Tracking metrics like job duration, technician productivity, and client feedback helps identify areas for improvement. Software with analytics features allows businesses to make data-driven decisions, improving service quality and efficiency.

Over time, data reveals trends in client demand, peak service times, and technician performance. This information can help businesses refine strategies and set realistic goals. Access to clear metrics also aids in optimizing resource allocation and reducing costs. Analyzing data consistently supports business growth and long-term success.

Field service management software with the right features can transform business operations and enhance client satisfaction. Exploring Jobber alternatives or any other field service management software provides an opportunity to find solutions that meet specific needs, from scheduling to data analytics. Choosing software with essential features streamlines workflows, improves accuracy, and boosts productivity. Investing in a comprehensive platform ultimately leads to a smoother, more efficient business that clients can rely on.

What is Evil

The Hypocrisy of the Religious

By Florida Night Train

Halloween, is here. Believe it or not, those who celebrate it will likely be judged quite severely and arbitrarily by the religious out there. I personally don’t particpate to the extent some will but I do like to indulge in the entertaining shock-value of my alter-ego persona of sort. Even my children I know silently question the sincerity of my faith because of the way I do halloween.

Each year I simply wear white zombie lenses, a classic black suit and fangs. Not complicated. Not cumbersome and, always always a success frightening people. Halloween with its eerie ambiance and playful disguises, offers a unique lens through which we can explore the complexities of human nature and spirituality. On this night, people don masks and costumes, transforming into, saints, devils, ghouls, witches, angels, and other fantastical beings. It’s a time when the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and the hidden aspects of our personalities come to the fore. But what if the real monsters aren’t the ones wearing the costumes or roaming the streets in search of candy but those who hide behind a facade of piety and righteousness?

In many communities, religious individuals are often seen as the moral compass, guiding others with their teachings and judgments. They and their parishioners are quick to point out the flaws and sins of others, often based on superficial appearances. A tattooed arm, someone who smokes or curses or someone who enjoys a drink, a short skirt, or a different way of worship can become grounds for condemnation. Yet, beneath their holy exterior, these same individuals, more often than not, are all guilty of the same sins, harboring darker secrets.

Consider the story of Reverend James, a well-respected figure in his small town. Every Sunday, he stood at the pulpit, delivering sermons on the virtues of humility, charity, and forgiveness. He was known for soft personality, his stern stance against what he deemed immoral behavior. He often singled out members of his congregation for their perceived transgressions. To the outside world, Reverend James was a paragon of virtue but at dinner table with his family, he and his family had no issue speaking openly about Joe’s indiscretion.

However, behind closed doors, his life told a different story. Reverend James and many of his own family members struggled with their own demons—gossip, greed, envy, and hidden addictions that gnawed at their souls. His and their judgment of others was a way to deflect attention from their own shortcomings, to maintain the illusion of righteousness. The very sins they condemned in others were the ones they battled within themselves. His own daughter committed adultery. One of his step son now deacon dealt with pornography.

“$890 billion is donated annually to the western Christian Church. Of that money 44% goes to salaries, 6% leaves the institutional walls for outside purposes such as missions and, six percent is stolen internally by church staff. Pastor Kenneth Copeland, according to Forbes, has a net worth of over $750 million dollars. He flies a very nice private jet, makes around $50 million a year and has an 18,000 square foot home that should have a tax bill of $150,000 but he doesn’t have to pay taxes on it because that home is in the name of the church. The money that’s being donated to the majority gets absorbed by church leaders, staff fundraising and, in many cases feeding the lifestyle of some of these pastors” ~IG religiousbusiness

Here are some well-known pastors in North America who have been involved in scandals:

Ted Haggard – Former leader of the National Association of Evangelicals, caught in a scandal involving drugs and a male prostitute.

Jim Bakker – Televangelist involved in financial and sexual misconduct.

Jimmy Swaggart – Televangelist caught in a scandal involving prostitutes.

Bill Hybels – Founding pastor of Willow Creek, resigned after allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power.

James MacDonald – Founding pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel, fired for creating a culture of fear and financial mismanagement.

Tony Alamo – Sentenced to 175 years in prison for pedophilia and marrying an underage girl.

Eddie Long – Accused of sexual misconduct with young men in his congregation.

Ravi Zacharias – Apologist and author, posthumously found to have engaged in sexual misconduct.

Carl Lentz – Former pastor of Hillsong NYC, fired for moral failures and leadership issues.

Mark Driscoll – Former pastor of Mars Hill Church, resigned amid allegations of bullying and abusive behavior.

This hypocrisy is not unique to those pastors. Throughout history, additional countless religious leaders and devout followers have been exposed for their double lives. The bible is filled with them. Other faith’s leaders I shall not name are also plagued with human hypocrisy. The televangelist who preaches against adultery while engaging in extramarital affairs, the priest who condemns theft while embezzling church funds, the devout follower who speaks of love and compassion but harbors deep-seated prejudices—these are the real monsters hiding behind the masks of piety.

I am not attacking faith here. I am merely raising the question of moral accountability from those who hold high grounds. If they truly genuinely practiced what they preached, this world would be very different. Halloween, with its tradition of donning masks, serves as a metaphor for this duality. Just as people wear costumes to hide their true identities, so too do some religious individuals use their faith as a mask to conceal their true selves. They judge others based on appearances, yet their own hearts are filled with the very sins they decry. They look good externally but deep down they are rotten haters of self who hate and condemn others to forget so they can feel better about their own vile issues.

This is not to say that all religious individuals are hypocrites. Many genuinely strive to live by the principles they preach; their faith is a source of strength and goodness. My ex-brother-in-law turned pastor at First Baptist Church in Leominster, MA, I would say, is a good living example of that. He and his wife were the only ones (other than my father in law) I knew their faith was not a mask. I’ve been blessed to meet a handful like them. However, the danger lies in the tendency to judge others harshly while ignoring one’s own flaws. A rampant fact in churches. It is a reminder that true righteousness comes from within, not from outward appearances or the condemnation of others.

As we navigate the spooky season of Halloween, let us remember that the real monsters are not necessarily the ones in costumes, but those who hide behind a facade of virtues while harboring darkness within. Let us strive to look beyond appearances and recognize the humanity in each other, understanding that we all have our own struggles and imperfections. That God (if you believe in God) is the judge. No one else.

In the end, Halloween teaches us a valuable lesson about the nature of judgment and the importance of self-awareness. It reminds us that the scariest masks are not the ones we wear on October 31st, but the ones we wear every day to hide our true selves. By acknowledging our own flaws and striving for genuine goodness, we can move beyond the superficial judgments and create a more compassionate and understanding world.

So, as you carve your pumpkins and don your costumes this Halloween, take a moment to reflect on the masks you wear in your own life. Are they hiding your true self, or are they a reflection of who you aspire to be? And when you encounter others, remember that their outward appearance is just an infinitely small part of their story. Beneath the surface, we are all human, with our own fears, hopes, and struggles. Let us judge less and understand more, for in doing so, we reveal the true spirit of genuine religion—love, compassion, understanding, humility and forgiveness.

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God; It was never between you and them anyway.

~Mother Teresa – “Do it Anyway”

Common Causes of Workplace Accidents: How Professional Attorneys Can Assist Your Case

Have you experienced an accident at work and wondered if legal assistance is necessary? Workplace accidents can lead to injuries, medical bills, and lost income. Knowing the causes of these incidents and how attorneys can help makes a difference. Let’s explore how a professional attorney can support workplace accident cases.

Slips, Trips, and Falls

The most frequent causes of accidents at work include trips, falls, and slips. These incidents can happen in various settings, from wet floors in offices to uneven surfaces at construction sites. Consulting a Florida work accident lawyer can help determine if negligence contributed to such accidents. Often, these incidents result from poor maintenance or failure to post warnings about hazards.

When floors are slick or cluttered, employees are at higher risk of falling. This can lead to injuries like sprains, fractures, or even head trauma. An attorney can assess the conditions and determine liability if the workplace fails to address these issues. Evidence, such as witness statements or photos of hazardous areas, can strengthen a case.

Repetitive Motion Injuries

Repetitive motion injuries develop gradually but can severely affect work performance. These injuries occur when workers perform the same motion repeatedly, causing strain on muscles or joints. Conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome or tendonitis are common examples, often affecting those in assembly lines, typing-intensive jobs, or jobs with repetitive lifting.

Employers are responsible for implementing safety measures to reduce these injuries, such as ergonomic workstations. However, not all workplaces prioritize such adjustments. This lack of preventative measures can worsen repetitive stress injuries, leading to long-term physical strain.

Machinery and Equipment Accidents

Machinery-related accidents are common in industries like construction, manufacturing, and warehousing. These can range from minor injuries to severe outcomes, such as amputations or even fatalities. If equipment lacks proper maintenance or safety guards, the risk of injury increases. In such cases, an attorney can help investigate if negligence was involved, such as inadequate training or poorly maintained machinery.

Here are some common causes of machinery and equipment accidents:

  • Lack of regular maintenance or inspections
  • Insufficient safety guards on equipment
  • Inadequate training for employees
  • Malfunctioning or outdated machinery
  • Unsafe operational procedures

A lawyer can help gather evidence from maintenance logs, safety reports, and witness testimonies to support the case. With professional assistance, employees can build a strong claim when injury results from faulty or unsafe equipment.

Exposure to Hazardous Substances

Many workplaces involve the handling of hazardous substances, including chemicals, gases, or dust particles. Prolonged exposure to these substances can lead to serious health conditions, like respiratory issues or chemical burns. Particularly at risk are workers in sectors like manufacturing, construction, and cleaning. In cases where exposure causes illness or injury, legal guidance is essential to secure appropriate compensation.

Employers are responsible for providing protective gear and proper ventilation to limit exposure. Unfortunately, some workplaces fail to meet safety standards, leading to harmful exposure. When protective measures are lacking, affected workers have the right to hold employers accountable. For those suffering from health problems due to hazardous materials, obtaining compensation can assist with medical treatment and recovery.

Overexertion and Physical Strain

Overexertion injuries commonly affect workers in physically demanding roles, such as lifting heavy items, pushing equipment, or working long hours without breaks. These injuries can lead to muscle strains, joint pain, and long-term damage to the body. When overexertion results from unreasonable work demands, an attorney can assist in filing a claim for proper compensation.

Workplace accidents can lead to various physical and financial burdens. Understanding the common causes of these incidents and seeking assistance from a Florida work accident lawyer can greatly impact a case’s outcome. A professional attorney helps simplify the legal process, ensuring fair compensation and that rights are protected. With the right support, employees can focus on recovery and securing a safe working environment.

Chicago Undercover Cops / Rappers

This is the true story of ERIC DAVIS, JAMES MARTIN, and RANDY HOLCOMB, who grew up in some of the roughest housing projects in Chicago. They were gangbangers in a city known for its gangsters, who beat the odds, went to college, and came back as the law, hoping to make a difference. Not just cops but plainclothes “supercops.” Eric, James, and Randy knew the hood and all the tricks, and they had the guts to bring down the baddest of the bad guys. Their bravery and success did not go unnoticed, though; the drug lords started smear campaigns implicating them in corruption.

Although these three “supercops” are the most successful plain-clothes officers in the turbulent housing projects, they feel like turncoats because most local kids despise them. Despite their efforts to turn the kids away from crime, they are constantly losing ground to local gangbangers intent on increasing drug dealing and gang recruiting in the area. Their main nemesis, JT, an ambitious, ruthless, on the rise drug lord, is Eric’s old running partner from back in the day when Eric was a gangbanger himself. JT unsuccessfully tries to get Eric to look the other way.

One day after going to a young boy’s funeral, the “supercops” go to the parking lot of the infamous Cabrini Green Housing Project and confront a bunch of young gangbangers playing an “NWA” rap song entitled “F*ck Tha Police.” The kids laugh, turn up the music, and call them “slick boys,” the slang for undercover cops. One of the kids jeers that the “slick boys” don’t like the music because they can’t rap and are just jealous. The cops argue that they can do whatever they set their minds to, just as they could if they’d try. The young gangbangers just scoff and laugh louder. On the spot, the “supercops” challenge the kids to a “who can write the best rap song contest.”

While JT is successfully overthrowing many of the local drug kingpins, Eric, James, and Randy are trying their hand at becoming rappers.

A few weeks later, the “supercops” returned to the hood to perform their rap song. At that moment, they were no longer police officers. They are the Slick Boys. Kids come from around the neighborhood to hear this rap with a positive message. Soon, the Slick Boys are asked to perform all over the city for troubled youths. Eric, James, and Randy have finally found a way to reach the kids before they turn to crime.

JT grows angry over the Slick Boys’ success and its negative impact on his profits and recruitment. Nostalgic for the good old days, the drug lord puts a hit on the Slick Boys, offering $15,000 ahead.

A bloody showdown that starts in the projects will determine the outcome of all their lives and show everyone’s true colors. The battle spills out into the drug supplier’s Gold Coast bar, exposing the dirty cops that own it. The lethal battle that follows changes the ones that live forever.

Fast-Track Approval: Key Terms and Conditions in Payday Lending

The realm of payday lending serves as a quick financial solution for many, offering a rapid infusion of funds to those in urgent need. However, the speed of loan approval often hinges on specific terms and conditions set by lenders. Understanding these prerequisites can expedite the approval process, minimizing delays and confusion. This comprehensive exploration delves into the crucial terms and conditions that typically lead to swift payday loan fast approval.

1. Income Verification and Stability:

A fundamental criterion for fast payday loan approval is proof of a stable income. Lenders prioritize applicants with a regular and consistent income source as it indicates the borrower’s ability to repay the loan. Pay stubs, bank statements, or other income verification are often required. The key is not just employment but the assurance of financial stability that comes with it. Documentation showing regular income streams can serve the same purpose for gig workers or freelancers.

2. Active and Valid Checking Account:

Holding an active checking account is another vital term for quick payday loan approval. Lenders typically use this account to deposit the loan amount and withdraw repayments on the due date. This direct link to the borrower’s bank account facilitates a smoother transaction process. Some lenders may also consider savings accounts, but checking accounts are generally preferred due to their transactional nature.

3. Age and Identification Verification:

Compliance with legal age requirements is a non-negotiable aspect of payday lending. Applicants must typically be eighteen or older, a criterion verified through government-issued identification. This requirement ensures that the borrower can legally enter into a financial contract. Besides age, this identification also helps confirm the borrower’s residency and citizenship, which are critical for the lender’s risk assessment.

4. Credit History Considerations:

While payday loans are known for their accessibility to individuals with low or no credit, some level of credit assessment is still conducted. This doesn’t mean that a high credit score is necessary, but rather that lenders might check for major red flags in the applicant’s credit history. Issues like active bankruptcies or a history of defaulted payday loans can impede fast approval. However, compared to traditional loans, payday lenders are more lenient in their credit considerations.

5. Employment History and Job Security:

In addition to current employment status, some lenders scrutinize the applicant’s employment history and job security. A history of frequent job changes or recent unemployment can be red flags, potentially slowing the approval process. Lenders favor applicants with a stable job history as it suggests a lower risk of loan default due to sudden unemployment.

6. Loan Amount and Repayment Terms:

The requested lending amount and the proposed repayment terms can significantly impact the speed of approval. Generally, smaller loan amounts are approved more rapidly, representing a lower risk to the lender. Similarly, realistic and manageable repayment terms, aligned with the borrower’s income and financial capacity, are favored by lenders. Overambitious loan requests or impractical repayment schedules can lead to delays or even denials.

Conclusion

Navigating the terms and conditions of payday loan with fast approval is pivotal for those seeking fast loan approvals. Key factors such as stable income, an active checking account, proper age and identification verification, a check on credit history, stable employment, and realistic loan and repayment amounts play a significant role in the approval timeline. By aligning with these criteria, applicants enhance their chances of quick approval, ensuring they can access the necessary funds without unnecessary delay. It’s important, however, to approach payday loans with caution and awareness of their high interest rates and the potential for financial strain if not managed responsibly. In essence, while payday loans can be a convenient short-term solution, they should be approached with a thorough understanding of their terms and a solid plan for timely repayment.

Can a Third-Party Candidate Be Elected President?

When I hear the hardliners from the left and the right and the way they lie and or are just brainwashed, I realize I can no longer vote for either party. They tell us the other party / the candidate will be the downfall of democracy! The others “can’t be trusted, they’ll destroy our country, they’re lying, they’re flip-floppers, they’re greedy, they’re power hungry, they’re the next Hitler…etc.”

Well, at this time, I tend to believe both parties will be the ruin of the USA.

I feel this country is in terrible trouble that could turn cataclysmic. All great dynasties have come to an end. Has America’s greatness fallen apart?

I won’t get into the details about what parties’ / candidates’ stances make me cringe and keep me up at night. I don’t have the space.

So, let me get to the point. Can the good old US of A bring in a viable party/candidate that can realistically challenge the status quo?

I’ve wondered this for three decades, and now I’m willing to not just explore, but I am ready to jump on this bandwagon and try to play a country-shaking tune, “America Deserves Better.”#Library

America’s process for electing our president involves a series of “winner take all” primaries nationwide. The process makes it very difficult for a candidate from a third party to break through and receive any electoral votes. It has created a two-party system for all practical purposes. Has this system effectively served as a source of moderation, as intended?

I say no. We are becoming increasingly extreme, and it is winner-take-all. The winning party reverses the country’s course, often throwing out things that are working just to have their way. The losing party then stands in the way of everything it can to spite its foes!

Well, I believe much of the country feels the way I do as the independents keep growing rapidly. We want bipartisanship. We want our government in action, not blame-calling and stalemating.

Ah, the upside of a dictatorship, make a decision at breakfast and have it implemented by the next day. If it wasn’t for all of the murdering of opponents and squashing of human rights, C’est la vie.

“Americans are not very happy with their government and the two major parties right,” said Dr. Bernard Tamas, associate professor at Valdosta State University.

It’s drawing attention to an often-overlooked force in American politics — third-party candidates.

Tamas is an expert on third-party politics. He said, “The point of third parties in the U.S. is to bring up issues and, effectively, use the threat of spoiling to get the major parties to focus on them.”

But can a third party get past being just a spoiler or getting the powers that be to focus on an issue?

“Polls suggest support for a third party continues to grow. A 2023 Gallup poll found that 63% of Americans believe a third party is needed.

Still, structural obstacles make it hard for third-party candidates to gain much traction, particularly in federal elections.”1

“The biggest problem for third parties in America is money,” said Tamas. “In the U.S., to run for even, let’s say, a congressional seat, you need millions of dollars,” said Tamas.

“It’s an even more significant hurdle in a presidential race, where campaign spending is counted in billions.

And then there’s the Electoral College, in which most states award votes based on a winner-take-all system.” 2

“What you would need in the United States is some form of proportional representation,” said Tamas.

It’s a system used in many European democracies where voting districts elect multiple representatives, and congressional seats are awarded according to the percentage of the popular vote that each party wins.

The system gives third parties a voice in government and a better chance at winning presidential elections.

Without this type of significant structural change, Tamas says the power of third-party candidates hinges on their potential for spoiling elections.

“If you’re looking for a third-party candidate to win the White House, you’re not going to be happy. But that should not be the definition of success,” said Tamas.

“In a sense, their job is to be a spoiler with a purpose. And that purpose is to get them to respond to whatever issues they’re not dealing with,” said Tamas.

Now, as recent election results get tighter and tighter, third-party candidates may take center stage in November with just a few votes.

Personally, I’ve never seen a more significant moment in American politics to have kicked off a substantive third-party candidate. So, it won’t happen this year, but we can start preparing for 2028. Maybe the “No Labels Party” or another centrist upstart could become prominent with an ideal populist candidate.

But of course, it all ends up being about money. How can an upstart political party compete? For one, a populist movement. If a savior shows up, people will follow and then the money will come. An attractive populist candidate would garner huge media coverage. This would cut down on campaign financing significantly and bring in more campaign financing.

Another huge change that could make a third party very viable if campaigns were shortened.

American presidential elections are much longer than in other countries. Many nations have laws on the books that strictly curtail how long campaigns can be.

How do we get the parties to approve shortened campaigns? You can’t. They’d never approve it, just like effective campaign reform or campaign funding.

The best way to make changes is to give power to the people. If the people start insisting on more referendums, we can start changing government. Referendums can be a rallying cry for the new political party preparing to emerge.

If one of the referendums is to shorten campaign times like most of the free world, that would bring down the cost of campaigns and allow “free will” candidates to run that aren’t in the pockets of super-pack funders.

“Imagine, there’s no political corruption. It’s easy if you try. There are no racketeers below us. Above us, only stars. Imagine all of the politicians governing for the people…” 3

Most pundits say a practical, viable third party can never emerge. They’re also highly aligned with one party or the other, and none of them want change.

But America needs to change. Our constitution and way of life allow us and prod us to do so. If we don’t, the unthinkable can happen, and we can crumble like other dynasties.

Will the next George Washington please step up?

Pipe dreams, no. “You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one.” 4

As extremism continues to manifest in the US, it’s up to the cool-headed to bring us back to the center, to bipartisanship and civility.

“I hope you’ll join us someday, and the US will be as one.” 5

Imagine!

If we could find a compassionate, generous leader like the father of our country, we could correct our course.

Here are some thoughts from our 1st President:

“Where are our Men of abilities? Why do they not come forth to save their Country?”

“The marvel of all history is the patience with which men and women submit to burdens unnecessarily laid upon them by their governments.”

“What is most important of this grand experiment, the United States? It is not the first president’s election but its second president’s election. The peaceful transition of power will separate this country from every other country worldwide.”

“Honesty is always the best policy.”

“Be Americans. Let there be no sectionalism, North, South, East or West. You depend on one another and should be one in the union. In a word, be a nation. Be Americans and be true to yourselves.”

“I can only say that there is not a man living who wishes more sincerely than I do to see a plan adopted for the abolition of slavery.”

“When there is no vision, there is no hope.”

“However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterward the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”

“The Constitution is the guide which I never will abandon.”

“The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves.”

“Few men have the virtue to withstand the highest bidder.”

“The power under the Constitution will always be in the people.”

“Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism.”

“Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

“It’s only natural for unbridled partisanship, unrestrained by allegiance to a greater cause, to lead to chaos.”

“The harder the conflict, the greater the triumph.”

“Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all.”

Interview with Multi-talented Actress Noella Jung

Hi Noella, how are you?

Hello, Terrell. I’m doing well. Thank you for offering this interview.

The interview is my pleasure. Before we start, please share a little about yourself with the readers.

I am Noella Jung, residing in Seoul, Korea. My professional roles include violinist, writer, lecturer, lyricist, producer, director, and actress.

After obtaining your degrees in Korea, what motivated you to pursue further education in the United States?

I started playing the violin when I was about five years old, and my violin teacher then thought I should be raised as a violinist. My career was decided by the time I reached fourth grade. From then on, I was trained to be a concert violinist, and going abroad was a natural path to pursue that goal. Many Korean/Asian musicians have followed similar paths.

What inspired your decision to pursue a career in music as you matured, rather than an alternate career choice?

My teacher, Mr. James Buswell from the New England Conservatory, always told me that I should become a violinist and a musician and go beyond and become an artist. That concept has always been in my mind, and that’s what I always try to be. There are many ways to express oneself: through music, painting, writing, dancing, acting, and so on. Playing music is one of the mediums through which I express myself, although I am stretching quite a bit more these days.

How did the concept of merging music with visuals come about?

I was conversing with my father, who is an art lover and paints himself, though he was never into classical music. It was my mom who wished for me to become a violinist. One day, my father told me about Monet and how he captured moments in his paintings, which came to be known as impressionism. At that moment, I could draw a connection with music and explained to him that in classical music, there is an impressionistic composer named Debussy who also captured moments in his compositions. This caught his interest, and we talked about expressionism and other art movements.

From that conversation, I realized it was a great way to introduce classical music to art lovers. So, I started writing articles for an art and culture magazine, pairing 24 artists, which I later published as a book. This book, A Moment When Painting is Audible, and Music is Visible, became a bestseller on its first release day, and I was invited to lecture about it. As a musician and writer focused on music and art, I transformed these lectures into lecture concerts, combining art and music on one stage.

Which accomplishments have you been most proud of?

My first significant accomplishment was the book A Moment When Painting is Audible and Music is Visible, “I must say.” This book remained a steady seller for quite a long time and was even translated into Chinese and published in China. I eventually wrote the second

volume, which also became a bestseller. Now, the new edition of all 59 pairs is published under the title Soul’s Duet.  My lecture concerts also have received acclaim, leading to invitations to perform at various prestigious venues, including Samsung, Posco, and the Korean presidential residence, the Blue House. I also created a classical music show called “My Dinner with Noella,” which premiered at Sejong Art Center. In this show, I combined filmmaking with violin performance on stage, accompanied by various artworks. I was fortunate that the show was sold out and made a good impression on the performing arts scene in Korea, which led to an invitation to perform at TEDx.

Additionally, the show was selected as a ‘stage tune-up project’ by CJ Group, where I gave 13 concerts in 11 days, achieving a record of all tickets being sold out. This earned me the title of “Pioneer of Art Collaboration.” I have also written lyrics for many K-pop stars and movies and produced a music video for the PyeongChang Olympic Campaign song.

My other works include two violin albums, four books, approximately 200 concerts (including lecture concerts), and seven short films. I have also been writing columns for newspapers and magazines for over 10 years.

What is the demographic of your fan base?

My fan base is quite diverse, ranging from music enthusiasts to art lovers, book readers, and concertgoers. I am grateful for the support from people who appreciate the fusion of different art forms and the stories I tell through my work.

Have you performed in any other countries? If not, which ones would you choose?

Yes, I’ve played in the US and Canada. I once had a tour in Chicago, where you are based. I also performed in Vienna when I was very young. I have another performance coming up in LA this fall.

Do you have any projects in the works right now?

I am working on an exciting project called Alchemy in Venice with producer/director Jon Fitzgerald, co-founder of the Slamdance Film Festival. The project debuted as a book, and we plan to produce it as a feature film once we secure the necessary funding. The story revolves around a violinist named Sua and two other characters living in Venice, Los Angeles, exploring how they transform art, music, and their lives. I will be portraying Sua, with Jon directing the film. The book is online now; we would welcome your readers to support our efforts to bring this story to the big screen by purchasing the book through our website. We also offer limited editions with upcycled book covers made from recycled plastic. Additionally, we are hosting an event in LA where I will be signing books and performing on the violin. If you’re in LA, we would love for you to join us.

What inspired you to become an actress who writes and directs her movies?

It was just a natural path as a writer and producer who wanted to become an actor. At the beginning of my acting career, I auditioned for various roles, but then COVID hit, and all the projects, including yours, stopped. But I had already decided to stretch my acting career, so I started looking for other ways to make it happen. At that time, my acting coach suggested that I write scripts tailored for myself, and that’s how I embarked on creating my film projects.

What awards or recognition have you received for your work?

Yes, I have. I’ve received 14 Best Actress awards, 4 Best Director awards, and 2 Inspirational Film awards, along with Best Script, Best Mobile Film, Best Experimental Film, and more.

In what way did these achievements make you feel?

I was truly grateful. Honestly, I never expected such awards, so it was a wonderful surprise, especially the most recent one, A Rhetorical Question. I made it from A to Z, wearing all the production hats. I shot it with my smartphone, edited it myself, and wrote and acted in it. This project alone has won 19 awards.

Is directing a feature film your ultimate goal?

My ultimate goal is to express art freely. The medium doesn’t matter to me. I wish to express myself without limitations in various ways. That’s one reason why I enjoy acting in my scripts.

What do you find challenging and rewarding about the creative process of film versus music?

Since I’m not a composer, comparing the two directly is hard. However, as a violinist and an actor, I don’t find much difference in performing. Both require certain techniques, memory, and expression. When it comes to “what” to express, film can be more specific, whereas music, especially absolute music without a storyline or lyrics, can be more abstract.

Regarding the creative process, I must say that creativity, regardless of the genre, often requires solitude. It’s in those quiet moments that true inspiration and innovation can flourish.

I admire you on so many levels. Many people lose their creative spark when reality doesn’t align with their vision, leading them to abandon their goals.

Thank you for saying that. You must seek an alternative route to continue your journey if the road you’re on isn’t taking you in the right direction, and most importantly, you must have faith that you will succeed but by your standards of success.

Who do you consider to be your biggest supporter?

I can’t name just one person because, given my various roles, I have so many supporters across different industries. I’m very grateful for all of them. However, I do want to mention Jon Fitzgerald, who I’m currently working with on “Alchemy in Venice,” for his deep understanding of my script and contribution to developing it.

Alchemy in Venice” was initially written by me under a different title. When Jon got involved and learned more about my life and work in music and art, he suggested incorporating more of my personal story into the screenplay. He also proposed expanding the narrative to include themes of upcycling and sustainability. The story turned out beautifully, and I genuinely believe in its power. Most importantly, Jon is also someone who never stops searching and thinking.

Can you tell us briefly about Jon and how you met?

Jon co-founded the Slamdance Film Festival and ran it for 3 years, and he was the Festival Director at the American Film Institute. We met through his masterclass called ” Film Festival Mastery.”

According to someone I once knew, loving an artist requires a special love. Do you agree with that statement?

I wouldn’t say it requires a “special kind” of love, but I believe a relationship with an artist comes with different expectations. Artists often need significant periods of solitude and independence to immerse themselves in their creativity. It is most appreciated when their partner understands and respects this aspect of their nature.

Some people begin with great ideas but lose enthusiasm along the way. Can you guide someone hesitating to complete a creative project due to a fear of rejection?

Interestingly, you mention this, as it aligns with the theme of my recent lecture concert. I would be delighted to share the entire story with you.

First, you need to ask yourself if there is anything you genuinely need to improve. If you find it so, you must focus on working harder and improving yourself. However, you should not be ashamed if you believe you have done your best. Perhaps it just isn’t the right fit, not meant to be. Often, it’s a matter of finding the right person and timing. I think the key is to identify and understand your fear. Fear is not external; it resides within you. Once you recognize this, it becomes easier to manage.

Is there anything else you wish to include?

Thank you for allowing me to share my story with all the readers. I hope you all find your paths filled with inspiration and passion, and I look forward to crossing paths with you along the way.

Please come and experience “Alchemy in Venice,” a story of three artists discovering their journeys and transforming into something more significant. This narrative also mirrors my personal growth and evolution. I would be honored to have you join me on this inspirational journey. Thank you very much!

I appreciate your friendship and am excited about the prospect of working together. How can those interested in collaborating or viewing your work get in touch with you?

MUST READ

Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi (and other Manson resources)

I’ve heard it said that these crimes were a freakish occurrence that could never happen again. I am not so sure. The Manson Murders embody revolutionary and utopian obsessions past and present.
