Guy Fieri’s Smoking Hot Birthday Bash at the Linq

GUY FIERI’S BIRTHDAY BASH at his VEGAS KITCHEN AND BAR in the Linq was a crowd of happy, cheery people. Everyone was on the deck and dining on pastrami sandwiches, tacos, brisket, and a whole lot of other easy finger foods plus tasty mojitos, and plenty of drinks. The restaurant is large and sits right on the strip.

The two cakes that showcased the evening were adorned with the Vegas Knights and Raiders logos. Guy was busy giving unlimited interviews and saying hello to everyone. With his signature punk hair and great grin, everyone is always happy to see him.

Along with his other restaurant in Las Vegas, El Burro Borracho on West Flamingo and numerous other cities including Baltimore, Mt. Pocono, Atlantic City and South Africa, he truly is one of the top chefs in the world. Vegas Kitchen and Bar is a fantastic place to stop and you can most certainly people watch from the deck.

The STRAT Makes Its Debut

THE STRAT, formerly the Stratosphere, had a “reinvention” gala this week.  Showcasing new areas; a lounge, the SkyPod, and upgraded casino, locals and celebrities alike came out to dine at BLVD & MAIN on the casino floor.

Sammy Hagar, legendary icon was there playing some of his music and toasting with his new Santo Blanco Tequila and Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum. Crab, shrimp, Chinese dumplings, meatballs, sirloin sandwiches, cheeses, and plenty of desserts were served in the festive atmosphere.

The Strat has really undergone some changes in the last year and with its free valet parking, is one of the few casinos that offer this added bonus. There are plenty of rides in the sky, a great view over all of Las Vegas, the Remix Lounge, and of course the tented show in the back, Celestia, which is a great bargain at its price.  Located on the North end of the strip.

Bugsy & Meyer Steakhouse to Open at the Flamingo

Can’t wait for the opening of the new BUGSY & MEYER STEAKHOUSE in the Flamingo. Taking over the former Center Cut space, which is right across from the wildlife park, this is a very large venue. There is an ongoing $10 million dollar investment and it should be open by spring.

With a definite “mob” feel in decorating, there will be a private bar and lounge in the back. Featuring a lot of steakhouse classics, you can book a party in one of three private dining rooms.

Why am I so excited?  Because my good friend Meyer Lansky, grandson of Meyer who actually headed up the mob, is a consultant. He will be adding a touch of old-time glamour, contributing some of his grandfather’s items. The real thing is hard to find unless you go to the Mob Museum downtown.

There will be a “fake” entrance thru a look-a-like bakery, past a meat cooler dry aging the meat, and into a dining room. Feel like you might be having dinner in Casino or the Goodfellas movies? You never know who else will show up on any given night. We’ll keep you posted on the actual opening date.

Free Entrance Days in the National Parks Across the U.S.

Come experience the national parks! On five days in 2020, all National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone. Mark your calendar for these entrance fee–free dates in 2020:

In the Las Vegas area we have two parks withing a day’s driving, Zion, which is 3 hours away and Bryce Canyon which is 4.5 hours. National parks are America’s best idea, and there are more than 400 parks available to everyone, every day. The fee-free days provide a great opportunity to visit a new place or an old favorite, especially one of the national parks that normally charge an entrance fee. The others are free all the time. The entrance fee waiver for fee-free days does not cover amenity or user fees for activities such as camping, boat launches, transportation, or special tours.

The annual $80 America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass allows unlimited entrance to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including all national parks that normally charge an entrance fee. There are also free or discounted passes available for senior citizens, current members of the military, families of fourth-grade students, and disabled citizens. Learn more about the variety of passes offered by the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass series.

Must-See Dragon Art Installation at Grand Canal Shoppes

The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas has partnered with Parker 3D to bring to life a dragon art installation in honor of the Lunar New Year. When completed, the interactive display will stand over 8 feet tall and measure an impressive 34 feet long. The dragon’s body is covered with metallic stranded material and illuminated with 13,750 computer programmed LED lights with sparkle strobes. This huge structure is powered by 5.2 miles of copper wire and features a smoke show.

Located close to Louis Vuitton, the mythical dragon will be constructed with a metal frame and chromed polyester metallic foliage that complements its gold accents. If you are in Las Vegas on January 20, come by and see it all lit up. It will be at the Venetian for three weeks.

Plenty of shopping in the Grand Canal Shoppes and many marvelous restaurants including Canaletto’s, Mott 32, Mercato Della Pescheria, and Sugarcane to name just a few. All the high-end shops reside in the Venetian.

What Are Your Plans for 2020?

Part One in a Series

This past week, I was truly blessed to attend our annual Retriever Merchant Solutions summit. It was a very powerful and informative two days. The fellowship was fantastic and it was great to see old friends and meet new ones.

I had the opportunity to be the last speaker on Friday afternoon and was both humbled and filled with gratitude to be able to share what was on my heart. “What are your plans for 2020?” was my opening question.

I pose that to everyone reading this as well, referring to every phase of your life. I’m talking about your family plans, business plans, financial plans, travel plans, ministry plans, etc., etc. There is a lot of information here and I don’t want to leave anything out, so I’m going to cover this subject over the next few Monday morning motivations.

The first step is to grab a sheet of paper and at the top of it, write out the word “PLANS”. Instead of beginning each sentence with “I want to,” start with “I will.” This will help to turn your dreams into goals. Goals are simply dreams with a plan.

I am recommending to you, as I did everyone else, to read the number one best seller of all time and use it as a guide for your life. The name of that book is called, “The Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth”. This book has sold over 5 billion copies and over 100 million are sold each year; it has been translated into 532 languages. Inside this book, there are 66 books and 185 songs. Another bit of information I found interesting is that it is the most stolen book in history.

One of my favorite verses in the B I B L E is from Jeremiah 29:11…For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. It is incredible to know that the true author of this book has these plans for us.

Let’s take three words out of that verse and focus on them. The first word is PROSPER. The definition of prosper is to succeed in an enterprise or activity, especially to achieve economic success. It also means to become strong and flourishing. Our goal is to prosper in all phases of our life.

Let’s take the word “prosper” and focus on that word from a financial standpoint. In this country and especially with our company, we have an incredible opportunity to become prosperous beyond our imagination as long as we have the right plan. Unfortunately, many people make a lot of money but they become broke at a higher level because they do not have a good financial plan. I described this as having all flash and no cash.  I am very passionate about this topic and I am committed to helping others. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in this area over the years and I hope others can learn from them. Here are some steps that will definitely help you.

1) Get Organized

It’s very important that you separate your business expenses from your personal expenses. Have a separate business account and do not mix that with your personal one. If you have not done this, go to the bank and open up a business account. If you are not an LLC or a corporation, you can open up a separate account and simply call it a business expense account.

2) Have an Appointment Book

I have been doing this for years. The first thing that you should do when you get into your car is write down your starting mileage point for the day. Keep track of every single expense. Write it down in your book. You can also get an app on your phone which will help with organization also.

Make a commitment to be disciplined in this area and get into the habit of doing this daily.

3) Pay Your Taxes Every Quarter

I know what it’s like to be behind on taxes and I don’t want any of you to fall into that trap. Please understand that a minimum of 25% of your earnings is NOT yours, that belongs to the IRS. My CPA gives me a quarterly statement on what I need to send in to the IRS each quarter based on my income. I take that a step further and send them money each month that adds up to what I owe for the quarter. At the end of the year, you will have a good feeling knowing that you have covered your taxes. Chances are very strong that you will have a refund coming which I strongly recommend that you apply to the following year.

This is a great starting point for all of us. Next week, we will continue to focus even more on the word “Prosper.” Make a commitment to prosper in your relationships, your health, your business, your finances, and every phase of your life. 2020 is your year, it’s time to prosper!

Have a super prosperous week!

There are 90 monitors throughout the sports book along with two 9-foot by 16-foot big screen televisions. While at the Aria, the ladies can enjoy shopping at Crystals.

Bellagio

The Bellagio race and sports book is absolutely luxurious. Tucked away in a corner of the hotel, the sports book is open and inviting, yet more intimate than some of the larger sports books elsewhere in town.

From deep, plush leather chairs to perfect service, there is definitely elegance here. Always catering to high rolling sports fans, the Bellagio has some of the highest betting limits in town. There are 51 TVs along with 99 individual desks.

Take a stroll thru the elegant Bellagio flower gardens, simply amazing.

Caesars Palace

Rather dark and atmospheric, the Caesars race and sports book is a “mega-book.” This is a huge and exciting venue with plenty of seats that have individual TV monitors for horseplayers, and race and sports fans alike can follow the action on several monstrous TV screens and an immense number of smaller monitors. There are six 12 x 15-foot screens, 12 50-inch plasmas and a 20 by 50-foot LED board, along with 140 sports seats with a 12-inch flat screen at every table. The “world’s first rock ‘n’ roll hotel and casino” is always full of action, with 6 HD projectors, which can change up to 25 screens total, the sports book at Hard Rock offers a smaller experience than most others found in Vegas. It’s right next door to M & M’s chocolates.

Student Grades: How to Turn Around the Mid-Year Slump!

No matter what grade a child is in, it is imperative to begin the second half of the school year with renewed motivation and a positive attitude. It is not fair, however, to expect students to be able to do this without proper structure and support from the parent(s). Below are examples of how you can help your child improve grades for the last half of the school year.

  1. It’s time for a NOTEBOOK OVERHAUL– Be prepared to have your eyes pop out of your head when you see what the inside of a student backpack or notebook truly reveals. You will witness crumpled paper, torn sheets, and disorganized worksheets without dates, student names, or subjects indicated. This is one of the greatest reasons that students have trouble being organized and effective in school. THEY CAN’T FIND THEIR WORK! Whenever possible, try to have loose-leaf binders available with no more than two or three subjects per binder. (Some teachers only want spiral notebooks so you must adhere to their rules) Divider labels are needed in the following possible categories: Class Work, Homework, Tests, and Quizzes. If all work is dated, then your child will now be able to find work chronologically and study properly. Also, children should have a hole puncher available for ALL worksheets given so teacher handouts can be placed in the appropriate section. (Purchase reinforcements as well)

2. Parent / Teacher Communication is Essential-In a perfect world, teachers would be able to call each and every parent often to discuss ways for children to improve their grades. Unfortunately, teachers have many students, and this will never be achieved consistently. You must email, phone, or visit your child’s teacher(s) and determine what was done the first semester and what the teachers’ expectations are for your child to succeed the rest of the year. Keep notes and make sure you ask what you can do to support your child in his or her success in school. This method creates what I like to call the TRIANGLE of Educational Success. We need the School, the Parent, and the Student all involved together in order for children to reach their full potential.

3. Time can be the enemy, or the HERO-Adults have difficulty with time management so just imagine what student challenges exist with soccer, cheerleading, band, and the SUPERVILLIANS …PLAYSTATION AND X-Box! Fun and breaks from work are a must but you need to set aside time when children will do their school work. A break is needed when they first arrive home from school. They should NEVER work for more than twenty minutes at a time. Even a sponge needs to be wrung out once in a while. I suggest twenty minutes of studying and then a five-minute break AWAY from the study area. Then, upon return to work, MAKE SURE CHILDREN REVIEW the first twenty minutes of studying and THEN move on to new work or new material. Learning does NOT take place during the initial studying process…it takes place during REVIEW. Hopefully, these strategies will place your child on the path to a successful 2020!
