3 Ways to Change Your Thinking

We all have an amazing gift and once we tap into understanding it, it can be life-changing. The gift that we have, is called “the power to choose.”

We choose what we think about. If we change our thinking, we can completely change our lives. It’s all about what we focus on. If we constantly focus on negative thoughts, we will not have a life filled with growth and joy. This is why it’s important to change your thinking.

If you have been the type of person who has suffered from stinking thinking, changing your mindset is no easy task. You must have an open and positive mind. Your personal growth is what helps you to make choices for your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Bottom line, something as simple as changing your thinking can certainly change your life. Here are some ways which will help you do that.

1) Show up

Your feelings have nothing to do with it. Whether you feel like it or not, you still have to make the commitment to do it. The blessings of showing up and committing go a long way. You will find that you’ll begin to build confidence and with that, your mindset will change.

Make a success list. Start with small daily goals and make a commitment each day to follow through.

2) Get out of your comfort zone

We all have a comfort zone, but in order to change our thinking, we must be willing to step out of that comfort zone—no matter how much we enjoy being there.

Our mindset will only begin to change if we allow ourselves to be exposed to the possibilities of change.

Make a commitment to learn something new each day. You may feel uncomfortable at first, but you will find your confidence starting to build.

3) Get rid of excuses

We could all think of a million reasons why we are not succeeding. Unfortunately, excuses are a bad form of thought process. It’s time to change that. If you find yourself using the word “but” after your sentences, begin eliminating that word.

You will see that this is a powerful technique to change your thinking. It’s all about getting rid of those emotions and stop using excuses. It’s important to focus on the positive. Start by changing your focus from the “buts” and start working toward the “hows”.

Starting today, pay close attention to your thinking. No more stinking thinking! Keep your focus and your thoughts on positive things. Changing your mindset will be very rewarding. You will find that you are getting to know yourself and you will begin to love yourself even more. Focus on the positive. Change your thinking and change your life—you can do this!

Have a super positive week!

Dos and Don’ts for a Successful Sale

When selling your home, you probably want as quick and lucrative a sale as possible. And the key to achieving it is preparation.

By taking the proper steps before we list your place, we can ensure that it appeals to the current market — and that it’s smooth sailing once you’ve found an interested potential buyer.

Are you thinking of listing your home soon? Make sure you follow this list of dos and don’ts:

Do repair or replace anything that’s broken or in poor condition. You can bet buyers will notice upgrades. And if they don’t, their agent or the home inspector will.

Don’t paint the walls bold or bright colors. Buyers need to be able to envision themselves in the home, and that’s hard with hues they may not be a fan of. Stick to neutrals.

Do get a pre-listing inspection. This will alert you to any potential problems so you can fix them before listing, which will keep them from hurting your sale.

Don’t make elaborate renovations. You can update things, but don’t go overboard. You want the property to fall in line with comparable ones in the building or neighborhood.

Do remove any signs of pets. Address any obvious signs of pets in the home, including fur, odors or damage they caused to the space. This should be part of your cleaning and repairs.

Don’t set too-high expectations based on emotion. Make sure what you expect is realistic, regarding both price and timing. We’ll discuss these things early on.

What is the Difference Between a Social Worker and a Psychologist?

There comes a time in many people’s lives when challenges become too much to handle alone. Seeking the help of an expert is an indicator of your willingness to take responsibility for the situation. Guidance is something that empowers you to have a positive impact on your life and those around you. However, it’s not always easy to know exactly what type of expert to consult, particularly when it comes to social and psychological challenges.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that there is uncertainty about whether to collaborate with a psychologist or a social worker. Despite the fact there are solid differences between the two specializations, they are both human services professions tasked with improving the lives of community members. In a general sense, the differences are rooted in how they apply their expertise. Psychologists address the mental health challenges of their patients, while social workers are more focused on addressing the holistic elements contributing to a client’s difficulties. But it goes further than this.

We’re going to take a closer look at the differences between a psychologist and a social worker. What should you know and how can you best utilize each?

The Role of a Psychologist

When determining whether a psychologist is your most appropriate professional, it’s important to reach an understanding of what they can do for you. This can help to make the differences between this role and that of a social worker clearer. One vital element here is in the setting. In most cases, a psychologist will operate from a clinical perspective. You might be referred by your general practitioner or seek them out personally, but you will usually be making an appointment for a consultation in the same way you would any other medical service. Indeed, it will often be the case that your appointment will occur in a clinical facility.

One of the key differences between the roles is the intention. A psychologist’s goal is to help you gain a greater understanding of your mental wellness and navigate any challenges you have in this area. It’s a highly specialized position and their duties don’t extend beyond this assessment and treatment. Indeed, you’ll find psychologists can be further specialized — focusing on neurological, developmental, grief, and even sports-related issues. But the intention is the same: to help you manage your mental wellness.

The methods and tools a psychologist employs largely reflect this intention. It’s about helping you to discover a treatment plan that helps you to co-exist with your condition more effectively. For instance, if you’re living with anxiety, for which there is no true cure, a psychologist can help you to better understand and manage the thought processes that go along with the condition. They may also take the role of providing you with psychotherapy and lead you through various exercises. Though medication is often a component of treatment, a psychologist cannot prescribe this and would need to refer you to a psychiatrist.

The Role of a Social Worker

While a psychologist is a very specific role with a relatively narrow field of application, social workers, by contrast, often have a much broader scope. In terms of setting, there is a range of employers for social workers. The most common tend to be government agencies. Most states have some form of human services department that tasks social workers with addressing the challenges of the public: child welfare, disability services, and education administration among them. There are also social workers employed by nonprofit and private agencies in areas such as offender rehabilitation, community outreach, and even hospice care.

If this seems like an unwieldy number of settings, this is because social work can have a significant impact in almost any area where you may find personal, social, or behavioral challenges. However, one of the differences between this profession and a psychologist is in the intention of a role. They are not tasked with treating illnesses but rather with helping you understand, handle, and address all the various internal and external factors contributing to your challenges.

How they go about doing this is very different from the methods of a psychologist. A social worker’s role extends to being an advocate on your behalf or a liaison with other people and organizations. They may help to connect you with other services or attend court and sentencing appointments to support you. If your child is struggling in school, they might work with teachers, after-school programs, and administrators. They may guide you through transitional periods — say, following discharge from hospital, release from prison, or during drug rehabilitation — to help you integrate into the community and have more control over the direction of your life.

Collaborative Circumstances

While it’s true that psychologists and social workers have different skill sets, these are not at odds with one another. Indeed, aspects of each are complementary to the work of the other. As such, there may be occasions where you’re not just looking for a single professional but a collaboration between them, ensuring you can access both relevant mental health resources and address your social needs.

This usually takes the form of integrated behavioral healthcare. It isn’t usually the case that a psychologist will take the lead and guide the social worker — or vice versa. Rather, this is considered an exercise in teamwork between you, the social worker, and the psychologist. This is most common during and following a time of mental health crisis or substance abuse recovery where you may require both mental health treatment and guidance to operate functionally in the community. These professionals will work in tandem within their area of expertise. With your permission, there is an information-sharing process to keep everyone involved fully abreast of the challenges, activities, and goals throughout your time of need.

Conclusion

Seeking the right expert guidance requires an understanding of how they can impact your challenges. Psychologists are based in a clinical setting and treat mental health, while social workers are more holistically focused. Yet, it’s wise to consider if your particular needs can benefit from a collaboration between the two. Whichever route you choose, an area of commonality is that they are empowering you to live a healthy, happy, and functional life.

Burning Questions About Anti-Aging? We Have Answers

*Peggy in no way endorses the products shown as advertisements

Aging is an inevitable fact, and the costs associated with trying to delay the process can often break the bank. Gone are the days when aesthetic procedures and plastic surgery were only for the rich and famous. In 2019, nearly 1.5 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States, and according to the Aesthetic Society, Americans spent over nine billion dollars on plastic surgery in 2020.

Despite today’s challenging economy, people still want to look good, and worldwide, they are turning to plastic surgeons and skilled injectors like Peggy Pruchnicki to enhance their appearance to look good, feel better, and boost their confidence.

Peggy Pruchnicki is the owner and operator of Simply Radiant, a state-of-the-art med spa located in Las Vegas, NV. Peggy holds a master’s degree in Nursing. She furthered her education by attending conferences and taking intensive training courses to become a skilled injector and an anti-aging specialist. Under her supervision, the experienced beauty and medical team at Simply Radiant specialize in making you look and feel your best. This popular med spa provides a warm and welcoming environment for their clients and offers the latest skincare products, procedures, and services at affordable prices that will help enhance your natural beauty, improve your wellbeing, and increase your self-esteem.

No Strings Attached E-News sat with Peggy for an in-depth interview to learn about the current trends and products that are changing the face of the beauty industry.

NSAEN:  What are some of the latest anti-aging treatments and techniques?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  The latest and best techniques are any products or treatments that stimulate collagen. I like the Exosomes skincare; it’s an excellent treatment for skin regeneration. It focuses on healing the deep layers of the skin to reverse the effects of aging. I also like PRP (platelet-rich plasma).  This therapy uses injections of your own platelets to improve volume, tone, and texture of the facial skin and decrease the appearance of wrinkles. Microneedling is also an amazing technique that will help improve imperfections like acne and make your skin look younger. You go into the facial skin with about five to ten sterilized needles, and you make microchannels; you’re stimulating the collagen and elastin and stimulating reproduction of the skin cells, and then what I like is to do the platelets so that you can push them into those tiny channels — you’re putting collagen, stem cells, and growth factor in there, so it helps tighten up the skin and brings that glow back. These treatments and techniques are a good place to start.

NSAEN:  What do you think about coupon services for Botox and other injectables?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  I don’t like them! Botox and other injectable neurotoxins are not a moneymaker; they are expensive! For example, if you see Botox discounted at $100, understand that the product costs much more than that for us to purchase, so if someone can turn a profit from that, chances are the product could be diluted or fake.

NSAEN:  How much training do you need to become a skilled injector?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Injecting is a skill set. You take classes to learn how to inject, and the more you do it, the more you improve your skill.

NSAEN:  Who is allowed to inject?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Dermal fillers and injectable wrinkle relaxers like Botox and Dysport must be injected by a registered nurse or higher; anyone else injecting is breaking the law.

NSAEN:  What do you recommend for those annoying crow’s feet?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  The majority of the time, it’s Botox for the crow’s feet.  Sometimes you have to stimulate the collagen with a PRP, using your own blood platelets and plasma, and that will make the skin healthier because a lot of times, those lines are caused because your skin loses its elasticity.

NSAEN:  For collagen stimulation, besides the fillers, is there anything you can take internally to help with that, like powdered collagen or collagen pills?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  We tend not to have as much collagen as we get older; there are many contributing factors like stress, so yes, some of those pills and powders will also help.

NSAEN:  Will you please explain a “lip flip.”

Peggy Pruchnicki:  A lip flip is different from the fillers. It’s when you put Botox or a neurotoxin above the lip. It relaxes the lines, sometimes referred to as the “smoker’s lines,” and even if you don’t smoke, chances are you still drink out of a straw, so again, it relaxes those lines and the muscles a little bit, so the actual lip flips; comes up showing a little more lip and this should last about four months whereas fillers last nine months to one year.

NSAEN:  I recall how painful lip fillers are, but it sure makes your lips look great!

Peggy Pruchnicki: Thats why we have good topical numbing creams to ease the pain.

NSAEN:  What are some of the dangers/risks/side effects of going to someone for injectables who might not be properly trained?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Besides blindness, swelling, facial distortion, and a host of other issues, if you inject filler and it goes into an artery, it blocks blood flow to that area of the face and causes Ischemia which damages the skin, and it turns blue. The skin can die, so then you have to have surgery to repair it. So there are risks involved, which is why it is so very very important to be sure you are going to someone licensed to administer Botox and fillers.

NSAEN:  What cosmetic enhancements give you the biggest bang for your buck?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  I think fillers do. I really love fillers, and while I don’t know if they give you the ‘biggest bang for your buck,’ they last nine months to a year, and fillers give you instantaneous results. You come in, and you can literally see the results the same day.

NSAEN:  Before and after an injection, what are some of the dos and don’ts?

Peggy Pruchnicki: Dont lie down for about 4-6 hours. No facials, and do not rub or massage the treated area. No working out or strenuous activity; you don’t want to cause any basal dilation like sweating because it makes the vessels expand, so maybe the neurotoxin will spread, and then you could get a droopy eyebrow or eyelid; it can cause it to go places you don’t want it to go. You want them to stay where you put them. Also, don’t wear restricted headgear, only use light makeup if at all, reduce your exposure to strong sunlight, and avoid excessive alcohol 24 hours before injections to prevent getting bruised.

NSAEN:  Can you tell us about black market Botox; it sounds pretty scary. Is it real Botox?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Unfortunately, you never know. That is why it is so important that you get your Botox and fillers from someone reputable, accredited, skilled, and has an active medical license—that way, you know what you are buying from them is the real thing. The Botox and fillers must be FDA approved in the state where you are getting your injections.

NSAEN:  What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Peggy Pruchnicki: Thats a good question, and a lot of people ask me that. They are both neurotoxins. I always say the difference is between Coke and Pepsi but that the manufacturers have to change it a little bit so they can sell it as a unique product, but they do the exact same thing. Botox tends to take a little longer before you see results like 7-10 days; Dysport 5-7 days. My preference is Dysport.

NSAEN:  If you’ve been getting Botox for years and years and you feel that it no longer seems to be working as effectively as it once did, can your body build up a resistance to it?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Yes, it happens occasionally. Your body doesn’t react to the neurotoxin as well; it can happen with Botox and Dysport. But there is also Xeomin, a different type of product because it uses a different molecule that is genetically different so that if you build a resistance to Botox or Dysport, 90% of the time Xeomin will work.

NSAEN:  What does Christie Brinkley have to do with Xeomin?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  She is their brand ambassador/spokesperson.

NSAEN:  When I hear the word “toxin,” and Botox being  a toxin, how is that safe to put this into our bodies?

Peggy Pruchnicki: It’s actually such a small amount of toxins – 40 to 50 units in the face, so it’s not harmful. You can also safely use Botox for stomach spasms, certain muscle spasms, headaches, sweat glands for excessive sweating, and in the bladder to treat incontinence or an overactive bladder.

NSAEN:  Facelift vs. fillers… so fillers can replace fat, plump up, and smooth out, but they can’t tighten the skin, so when is a facelift recommended?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  The majority of people do not want to go under the knife or go to the expense. They have come up with new ways to tighten the skin. Again, with collagen and the stimulators, some of the fillers you dilute them a different way and inject it underneath the skin and it will tighten it up. It won’t be as good as a facelift, but you will get a lot of improvement. For example, it will give you a better jowl line and lift your cheek a bit.

NSAEN:  What is threading exactly? It looks painful.

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Threading is suture material, the same suture material that surgeons use when you get your appendix taken out. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that can help tighten skin on the face. The sutures stimulate collagen, and they put little hooks on the sutures to liven up the skin. The thread can last 4-6 months, and then they dissolve underneath the skin. The procedure is very, very tricky, and you have to have skills to perform this procedure.

NSAEN:  Is there an age limit when injectables stop working?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  It depends on the individual, how well they have maintained their skin, their hormones, the amount of collagen they have left, if they are taking collagen supplements, etc. Some people may be prone to more wrinkles than others; again, it depends on the individual. It’s harder when you’re older to get the correction you want, but the benefits of Botox and fillers will last longer if you take care of your skin. Laser peels and skin resurfacing will also help by getting rid of the creases.

NSAEN:  What is a laser peel?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  A laser peel is a laser that burns off the top of your skin.  You can control how deep it goes, so when you get, let’s say, the lines above your lip, you can do a laser peel. I don’t go that deep, but still, there is some downtime and a few days of redness because you’re taking away a layer of your skin, but the new skin that forms during the healing process will give the skin a tighter, younger looking surface. There are some plastic surgeons who do go deep, and the downtime is 7-10 days. You apply Aquaphor to help the skin heel because that new skin is almost like baby skin. Laser peels help revive the skin by getting rid of some of the old skin.

NSAEN:  How is a laser peel different from light therapy?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  With a laser, you are burning, you can smell the smoke and the skin — you’re burning. With light therapy, you’re just topically putting a light treatment onto the skin to stimulate collagen.

NSAEN:  How often do you recommend facials?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Typically every six weeks.

NSAEN:  What about microdermabrasion?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Microdermabrasion treatments help to gently exfoliate surface layers of skin using abrasion and suction. It can help with fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, and hyperpigmentation.

NSAEN:   What is dermaplaning?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Dermaplaning will remove that thin dead layer of skin and that fine facial hair. I always recommend that brides do this before their wedding because their makeup will go on so smoothly. It’s the perfect procedure before an event.

NSAEN:   What kind of facial products do you recommend?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  My favorite product is Epionce. The skincare line is based on botanical ingredients and formulated without paraben and sulfate-free, there’s no fragrance or gluten, and it’s not tested on animals. My aesthetician got me on it about four years ago, and she made it a simple routine because I don’t like doing ten different steps at night. There’s Retinol in it, Vitamin C, it exfoliates a bit — and there’s lots of research behind these. You pay more money for a medical-grade product, but you get the results you want. My skin looks gorgeous; I love the way it looks. I’ve tried lots of products, and I always go back to Epionce.

NSAEN:   Now that the city is no longer on lockdown, have you seen an increase in people coming back for their skincare maintenance, etc.

Peggy Pruchnicki:  Yes. We saw an immediate increase as soon as we opened back up, and since then, it has been non-stop.

NSAEN:  What type of services do you offer for men… are they interested in facials and fillers?

Peggy Pruchnicki:  In recent years, men have become increasingly interested in taking care of their skin and enhancing their appearance. Men tend to get some of the same treatments as women, especially now since so many have to look for new positions; they want to look their best for interviews.

NSAEN:  Thank you for your time and sharing your insights, Peggy; it has been a pleasure talking with you!

Kelly Clinton– A True Las Vegas Star Has a New Venue!

Anyone who comes to Las Vegas often, gets tired of the strip and is looking for local places to relax. Well, many of you have heard of Kelly Clinton, who has established a new room every Thursday night for your enjoyment, and this is definitely the place to go.

Located only three minutes from the strip in Commercial Center at the new Vegas Nevada Rooms, come enjoy a couple of hours of this great entertainer and comedian.

The new Nevada Room serves up an absolutely fabulous menu! I tried it out this week at a media luncheon and again last night upon her opening with three hours of unimaginable entertainment. Let me tell you a little bit about Kelly.

Called “The Sit In” With Kelly Clinton, she will perform every Thursday night beginning September 9 at 7 p.m. Her inaugural performance will open with an array of local talent and an official ribbon cutting, as announced by Tom Michel, President of The Vegas and Nevada Rooms.

“Kelly begins her Thursday night residency at The Nevada Room Showroom with her very own brand of charisma. Her new show, ‘The Sit In,’ is going to be a delightful variety of music and humor,” said Michel. “Of course, with Kelly, you can always expect surprises. She’s a kaleidoscope of talent, a staple of the Las Vegas entertainment community, and we are honored to have her at The Nevada Room.”

Kelly is thrilled about her new Thursday night home. “I’m very excited about my new adventure. Every Thursday night, we’ll be celebrating the incredible amount of talent in our city, from singers and musicians to comedy, variety acts, and guest headliners. Of course, my favorite part is always going to be the fact that you never know what’s going to happen next. So, I hope everyone will join me, my musical director, Mike Clark, and my band at the beautiful Nevada Room Showroom every Thursday night for the fun we’re going to have! I’d also like to offer my special thanks to the senior staff of The Vegas and Nevada Rooms – Tom Michel, Chef David Robinson and Sean Stephenson – for creating this amazing new venue and inviting me to be a part of it.”

Clinton’s new show is entitled “The Sit In” because she will invite audience members and always some surprise guests to sit in with her. Also featured from time to time will be her singing abilities and skills as an impressionist, a talent she acquired as a child while mimicking family members. The shows are complimentary, just order a lovely dinner and drinks.

The room holds approximately 125 so there is plenty of space for a wedding or private event. Last night could have held 200 as the show and her guests were so popular. Featured with her was the terrific magician, Mac King, now performing at Excaliber; Philip Officer; Eliza Fioilla; Keith Thompson; Bill Fayne; Tony Arias; and Clint Holmes, Kelly’s husband to name a few.

The Nevada Room showroom will also offer a complete handcrafted à la carte menu with delicious food created by Executive Chef and Owner, David James Robinson along with great cocktails and an assortment of wine, beer, and spirits.

Some of the fabulous menu items that I sampled included homemade Foccacia bread with Creamy Gorgonzola Blue Cheese Spread—it was amazing. Other appetizers include a new cheese & charcuterie board, bacon wrapped Gorgonzola Blue Cheese stuffed date, and chilled poached shrimp. On the soup and salad menu is chicken and rice soup or a crispy Caesar salad. They serve slow roasted pork loin, classic meatloaf, a vegan burger, a health conscious grain bowl, along with sweet potato fries to name a few. We all sampled three of the desserts, a warm bread pudding, “The Best” Orange creme brûlée, and a banana pudding redux with homemade vanilla wafer. Can’t wait to see what I order on Thursday!

The artwork and gorgeous silver palm trees were designed by Mistinguett, famous in Las Vegas.

Really folks, if you are in Las Vegas, give the strip a break and come out to see this uniquely talented woman, her great band, and some surprise guests. And if you are local to Las Vegas, start coming often, as every night but Monday they feature someone on the stage. At the other end of the venue is a piano bar, so you might also try it out for a change. Plenty of parking and it is FREE!

The Nevada Room is located in Historic Commercial Center at 953 E. Sahara Ave, just three minutes off the Strip and complete with ample free and convenient parking. Reservations are highly recommended, and they may be made by visiting VegasNevadaRooms.com or calling 702.500.1813.

Decide to Make it Happen!

I have learned that success is a choice one makes every single day. The ones who consistently say yes to success reach it. I believe that most people want to be successful, however it’s the actions that count most of all.

A lot of people have a misconception when it comes to success. You’ll often hear people say those that have achieved success were just simply lucky. The truth is, there are no shortcuts to success and there are no easy roads. Success comes to those who simply make a decision to go out and make it happen on a consistent basis.

We all have a choice. We can watch things happen or we can choose today to go out and make it happen. Once you have decided that you are making a commitment to become successful, the next step is to put a success strategy in place.

Each of us are gifted with talents. It’s important to use your talents and take advantage of the opportunities that have been placed before you.

Make a commitment to do the things that successful people do. When you think about people who are successful, you will find that they seem to have what we call “the it factor“. People enjoy being around them and they look forward to seeing them. Start working on some of your people skills. For example, always make good eye contact, have a strong handshake, enthusiasm, and integrity. Greet each person you meet with a smile.

People who make it happen also have a success plan in place. Successful people have a structured plan of attack. They plan the work and they work the plan. Do not procrastinate, set up tomorrow’s schedule the night before. It’s important to be organized. Time is your capital, so make sure you are investing it properly. Successful people make every second count.

It’s important to understand that you will have failures along the way. That is part of the success process. Remember, you’re never going to lose. Either you win or you learn. You cannot control what happens all the time, however you can control how you respond to it and the meaning you apply to each moment.

Finally, if you really want to make it happen, you have to make a commitment to be a giver. The world gives to the givers and takes from the takers. Those who go out and make it happen every day understand the importance of helping other people and encouraging them. For example, in the field of selling, we cannot make it all about us. You have to put the prospect first and offer a solution to them. Make a commitment to do things each day to make other people’s day better—find a way to add value to other people.

It’s time to make it happen, and itt’s all up to you. Success is a choice that we can make every single day. Decide to be awesome today. Build momentum and allow that to carry you forward. Let’s make it happen!

Have a super fantastic week!

Eco-Friendly Fashion Brands Establish the Pillars of Sustainable Fashion

Brands wishing to survive in current times “must deliver omnipresence, agility, and sustainability,” as stated in the report, Meet the 2020 Consumers Driving Change by IBM and the National Retail Federation. Americans, like many other global customers, have expressed their interest in backing eco-friendly brands in a vast array of industries – from food to fashion. Indeed, the fashion industry has been highly responsive to this demand, with a plethora of brands working to establish the tenets of the new sustainable fashion movement. Read on to discover the ways in which fashion brands are heralding the new age of clean, green, ethical fashion.

Transparency is Key

Committed fashion brands are putting transparency at the forefront of their marketing strategies, with customers able to glean information on supply chains and staffing (everything from where materials are sourced to how they are made). Brands like Stella McCartney, for instance, publish annual Eco Impact Reports. Moreover, every year, campaign group Fashion Revolution publishes its list of the world’s most transparent brands (H&M, C&A, Adidas/Reebok, and Esprit are leading the game). Brands like Psylo, meanwhile, inform clients of the process employed to dye sustainable clothing. This process is intricate and involves dyeing fabrics in small batches, filtering waste, and using eco-septic tanks. All this information is provided openly by brands on their websites, with blog sections being a particularly fascinating source of information on virtually all processes involved in the making of a garment.

A Strong Emphasis on Material Choice

Top rated eco fashion brands prioritize the use of cruelty-free, ethical, eco-friendly materials that reduce waste and save on energy and water resources. Many rely on materials such as organic cotton, recycled fabrics, regenerated cashmere, natural dyes, and ethically obtained wool. Companies are likewise invested in creating high-quality vegan fur and leather items, made from recycled plastic, a polymer called polyurethane, and plant-based materials such as apple peels, cork, and pineapple leaves.

Design for Life

The design for life concept in fashion seeks to promote the production of clothing that can be worn forever. Quality, sturdiness, and classic designs all work together to fight against the ‘wear one season then throw away’ ethos that is so dominant in the world of fast fashion. Companies like nylon producer Aquafil, for instance, enlist the help of volunteer divers to collect fishing nets that have been left or lost in the ocean. These nets are then converted into a resilient nylon fiber called Econyl. Other brands use recycled plastic in fashion, which lends materials a tenacity that can extend their lifespan. Swedish brand Isbörn uses fish traps to make items such as jackets, all of which have name tags with space for three names (since the jackets are so sturdy they are meant for use by at least three people).

Top brands have long been committed to sustainability, with leading brands like Stella McCartney demonstrating transparency and eco-friendliness since their inception. Brands are choosing to let customers know where they source and manufacture their products. They are also keen to share information on processes that enable fashion to be more durable to highlight the value of the zero waste concept.

“To Inform Family First”

In memory of Tiffiany Marie Olson

By Florida Night Train

In today’s age, no parent should be left in the dark or be the last to know about their child’s health and safety following an accident. Surprisingly, the national average for authorities to reach a victim’s family is about 6.5 hours. This is exactly what Christine Olson, mother of late Tiffiany Marie Olson went through. Tiffiany tragically died December 7, 2005, at 7:01 p.m. at the corner of US19 and 49th Street in Palmetto, Florida, on her way to Quaker Steak & Lube bike night in Clearwater. Authorities reached Christine at 1:30 a.m. the following morning announcing the death of her precious daughter.

As a result, Christine decided to launch a petition so this embarrassing national average would be narrowed down and no parent would go through what she did. With the support of the community and Rep. Bill Galvano, Florida State implemented an emergency contact program on October 2, 2006. The program is “TIFF” (www.toinformfamiliesfirst.org) How does it work?  Simple, you name your emergency contact right from your driver’s license so if something happens, they are the first to be called.

Currently, 19 million drivers in Florida have registered. I am one of them—have been for years. In fact, I have put my attorney Fran Haasch and her husband Rhett because I know they will have tactfulness to tell my children; and it will put Fran in the lead for insurance claims my family would otherwise not know how to handle. Besides, Fran and Rhett are family to me. But that is my personal choice. There are also 15 states that are now following in Florida’s footsteps about this program.

TIFF, which stands for “To Inform Family First”, provides nationwide law enforcements with who you want to be notified when the unexpected happens.  Christine is on a mission to spread awareness about this program with the passion only a mother could exert. In fact, on October 23, 2021, a ride called “Rolling Purple Thunder” to raise awareness about the program will take place starting at the Bradenton Police Department: 100 10th Street West in Bradenton, FL 34205. Registration will be at 9 a.m. – KSU at 10 a.m. TBACS will be leading the ride, which will include the Skyway Bridge, and be escorted by the Bradenton PD/Manatee Sheriff. I am also told aerial pictures and videos will be shot. The ride is sponsored in part by The Fran Haasch Law Group as well as Florida Full Throttle and Quaker Steak & Lube.

“This is right in line with the fact that October is Emergency Contact Info Month” said Christine. Receiving an international award in 2006 from American Association of Motor Vehicle Administration, and in recognition from The Ash Institute at Harvard University’s John F Kennedy School of Government as a top 50 government innovations in 2009, TIFF pursues with determination to reach families and government agencies with the solution to what Christine believes is a national crisis. Her story does not have to become yours, but we need to join hands and forces and get this across our nation. Will you help her?
