Terry Fator Now at New York New York

TERRY FATOR is at his great new home at New York New York in Liberty Loft on the Las Vegas strip. Entitled Terry Fator, Who’s the Dummy Now?, we were all waiting to see this wonderful talent again.

Being lucky to attend the media night at his new home, I was in the very front row, up close and personal. Terry and his “friends” made it a fabulous night. We had drinks and appetizers at Tom’s Urban restaurant, which has both indoor and outdoor dining. Terry greeted us all before the show. Laughter was heard everywhere with lots of picture taking, all of us anticipating what this new home for Terry would look like. We weren’t disappointed, this being a much more intimate room with about 450 seats.

Moving on into the showroom, it was sold out. Along with Winston the Impersonating Turtle, who was Fator’s first puppet on stage, Vikki the Cougar, Maynard Tompkins who thinks he is Elvis, Emma Taylor, and a cast of characters, Terry was perfect as always.

He is incredible, funny, entertaining, and a true celebrity. The room has a couple of large screens so everyone can be up “close.” Don’t miss seeing Terry’s show. Fator became famous when he won Season Two of “America’s Got Talent,” which showcased his celebrity impressions. After 25 years of working all over the country including hundreds of county fairs the Dallas-born entertainer’s “AGT” win shot him into the top of performers across the country and gave him his 11-year run at The Mirage, where he performed in front of millions.

Fator is scheduled to perform Wednesday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $34.95 (plus tax and applicable fees). Tickets for shows through the end of 2021 are now on sale and available for purchase at NewYorkNewYork.com or by visiting any MGM Resorts International box office.

D.H. Lawrence: the Good and the Bad

Author D.H. Lawrence (1885—1930) is best known for his worst novel, Lady Chatterley’s Lover. But he also wrote some genuinely fine works of fiction, including the short story, “Tickets, Please”.

The short story is set in an industrial region of England during World War I. It concerns a young man named John Thomas who works for a tram-service, along with a young woman named Annie. Exempt from wartime service, John Thomas exploits the shortage of men and the availability of women. But one does not get the impression that he is an Alfie-type; the enjoyment he derives from his numerous girlfriends is more flirtatious and cozy than flagrantly sexual, though it might easily lead to the latter. In any case, he is playing with fire; he is stirring things in these women which they expect him to follow through on in a serious way. When he doesn’t do that, the women—instigated by Annie—turn on him violently.

The story’s opening is loaded with mannered, literary clichés—which may or may not have been the author’s artful intention—but then works its way toward the startling attack on John Thomas. What strikes me as remarkable is that the author does not seem to favor one side of the conflict over the other. Both sides emerge as sympathetic, at least in part; both sides have been victimized and both have been the victimizer. The overall result is a potent, earthy, memorable and thought-provoking work of fiction.

The same cannot be said of Lawrence’s 1928 novel, Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Its claim to fame is based primarily on its explicit depictions of sex, which for a time elicited a lot of prudish hubbub. If not for that, it is largely forgettable. The plot concerns the love affair of Lady Chatterley with her husband’s gamekeeper, Mellors, and their efforts to escape from the moral restrictions of their society.

Lawrence’s novel is sometimes associated with James Joyce’s Ulysses, but that is off target.  Lady Chatterley’s Lover bears a much stronger resemblance to Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, although even this comparison is limited. Both books deal with issues of class and a defiance of convention; Lady Chatterley bears some resemblance to Catherine Earnshaw, Mellors to Heathcliff, and Clifford—Lady Chatterley’s husband—to Edgar Linton; but the similarities end there. Brontë’s novel is so much better than Lady Chatterley’s Lover it almost pains me to draw attention to the likenesses. But when all is said and done, it’s the differences between the two works that matter most. Brontë wrote a novel, not a huffy diatribe; Wuthering Heights is a work of fictional art while Lady Chatterley’s Lover is more like a tract. Or maybe Lawrence thought he could improve Wuthering Heights by sexing things up in a way that Brontë would never have done?

The central problem with Lawrence’s book is not its affirmation of the human body, human sexuality and erotic love, but its tone of arrogance, intolerance and hostility.

5 Unusual Tips for Protecting Your Privacy Online

Most folks are aware of the threat of hackers and criminals and the damage they can do to our smartphones, tablets, and computers. Many people are also aware of the basic precautions necessary to avoid trouble, like creating detailed passwords and keeping phones in our pockets and out of the hands of thieves.

However, as we depend more on the internet and technology for our work, fun, and extracurriculars, we are giving criminals more opportunities to hack into our systems and upload viruses or steal our data. Basically, if you ever go online, then you are at risk and you need to improve your cybersecurity game. Here are some tips for staying secure in this radically advancing world.

1. Install a Virtual Private Network

If you ever bring your devices into a public place like a restaurant or coffee shop for work or play, and you depend on Wi-Fi for your internet needs, then you are immediately putting yourself at risk. Hackers are constantly trying man-in-the-middle attacks, which are fake Wi-Fi networks that look like the real deal, but if you connect to them, you are really connecting directly to the criminal. These fake networks can be incredibly deceiving, so in addition to asking an employee at the establishment for the correct network, you should install a virtual private network (VPN.)

A VPN will essentially disguise your location so hackers cannot see your device even if you are in the same room. The idea of a VPN may seem like a complex technology to some, but these networks are very easy to install and they can be a true lifesaver. As an extra tip, even with a VPN or any other security installed, you should avoid going into bank accounts and other sensitive websites while using public computers.

2. Be Extra Cautious When Gaming

When we say that you need to be cautious at all times when you go online, we mean it, and that even goes for when you are trying to blow off some steam by playing your favorite video games. Hackers have many methods for breaching your devices and stealing your data. They can hack the location services that you activate when playing with other gamers outside of your home and use them to install malware and spyware. They can also hack into the main game server. You would likely have no control over that, but if the criminals use that server to infiltrate your specific computer or gaming console, you could be in trouble.

To stay clear of viruses and spyware, be sure to turn location services off if you don’t need them, always use secure Wi-Fi when you game in public and install antivirus software on your devices so you can catch malware before it can cause irreversible damage.

3. Prevent Companies From Sharing Your Data

You have probably visited a website just to be greeted by a message about enabling cookies or sharing your information, and if you just pass by those messages without thinking about what you are reading then you could be in big trouble. The reason they inform you of this upon entry is that when you shop online, the company is collecting the information you provide for marketing purposes, in addition to selling it to other companies.

The companies aren’t only saving your product preferences but also your personal information, and if that company is ever hacked, the criminal will have direct access to your private data. To prevent any company, from Apple to Facebook, from collecting your info in the first place, make sure to look within your account details for the privacy settings and make the proper adjustments so your data remains secure.

4. Be Stricter With Webcam Usage

With remote work on the rise, more employees than ever are working from home, and a big part of that is attending virtual meetings with online platforms like Zoom. The problem is that if you are not cautious with your webcam, you could be inviting hackers right into your living room, and from there, they can listen in on conversations and steal any data that is within view, such as that list of passwords that you keep by your computer.

To stay protected in this regard, be sure to turn off your webcam when not in use and enable a firewall so the hacker cannot gain access in the first place. Again, the importance of installing antivirus software cannot be understated. Having that software enabled will allow your system to detect threats immediately and prevent additional harm.

5. Don’t Go Overboard On Social Media

While social media is great for sharing memories and reconnecting with old friends, it is important to remember that the information you share online is typically there forever. Talk about the good times, but make it a habit to avoid sharing personal information about yourself and your family. In addition to avoiding disclosing your birthdate and phone number, you should also be cautious about sharing the name of your community, your kid’s name, etc.

While the friends you have online may be harmless, hackers can use that information for many malicious purposes, including sending phishing emails and guessing your passwords.

In the end, it may seem like the only way to retain privacy online is to stay off the internet altogether, but that isn’t necessary. By having smart passwords and taking the precautions listed here, you can confidently enjoy the internet and all that it has to offer.

Illusion of Freedom

Are we truly able to achieve “freedom”? “I ride because I feel free;” the one statement we hear most when discussing why we ride, isn’t it? But what are we seeking freedom from? And, if we desire freedom, are we not making ourselves slaves to that desire? Freedom from what, from whom? Freedom from pain? Freedom from an abusive soul supposed to love us? Freedom from a government we disagree with? Freedom from emotions we can’t get rid of? Freedom from addictions?

WEBSTER defines freedom as follows; “the quality or state of being free such as the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action; liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another: INDEPENDENCE, the quality or state of being exempt or released usually from something onerous, freedom from care, unrestricted use, the quality of being frank, open, or outspoken, answered with freedom, boldness of conception or execution”

“There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.” and “A freedom fighter learns the hard way that it is the oppressor who defines the nature of the struggle, and the oppressed is often left no recourse but to use methods that mirror those of the oppressor. At a point, one can only fight fire with fire.” Nelson Mandela

Sounds great, does it not? But underneath that, what is there? What is it about really? On one hand, we can see all this as a blessing but on the other, does it not sound deeply rooted in the “me me me” mentality?  This “me me me” mentality we all detest because it reveals poisonous selfishness in the human heart from the beginning of time. The “me me me” mentality that insidiously penetrates the heart of an unhappy spouse resulting in selfish betrayal or abandonment. The “me me me” mentality of entitled individuals. The “me me me” mentality of those who love to play victims.

I don’t have answers to all these questions but I do have them and the more I reflect, the more is revealed to my mind. What is this life about, really?  Seeking freedom? For who? For what purpose? I actually feel most free when I don’t seek or claim my freedom. I feel most free when I give. I feel most free in altruism. I feel most free when I let go. I feel most free when I take the high road responding to anger with kindness. “A soft answer turns away wrath”.  Ever tried that? It powerfully discombobulates your adversaries and defuses the most heated conflicts.

Do I feel free when I ride? If I am honest, not really but I feel closer to the rawness of this beautiful creation. Truth is, none of us will ever be free and the moment we accept this reality we start falling into place feeling free from the burden of our prideful rebellion against the required humility to become decent humans. We suffer from the illusion we are not free when we seek freedom, yet we realize our freedom when we let go.

“The truth shall set you free,” Jesus said to the Jews back in His days. What truth? Truth about what? What is the truth?

I will share one thing with you. I personally went through, and continue at times, to experience what I feel to be the most incredibly abusive evil persecution of lies I thought a human could go through by people who were supposed to love unconditionally. The one thing I can honestly tell you that helped me beyond any imaginable hope was an uncompromising search for truth in all that encompassed my existence. That is, emotions, mental, physical, spiritual, and any and all situations I faced. “What is true?” was and continues to be the question about every detail in my life at times of reflection, studies and hardships for myself, my children, those I love, and those who are not so lovable. This question guided me in understanding and forgiveness of myself and others. This question even helped me gain understanding and compassion for those most difficult to love.

Watch the movie “The Shack” and you will understand the power of what I am saying. I do not excuse evil, but understanding those who fall prey to its lies provided me with the most incredible sensation of freedom I could ever pursue on my own. So if you ask me why I ride I will tell you it’s because in those moments, in the open air, there is a space that is intentionally created for the path to understanding.

Noah’s Animal House Has Served 2021 Pets Since Beginning

NOAH’S ANIMAL HOUSE HAS SERVED 2021 PETS

Pet Shelter offers needed solution to victims of domestic violence

This is such a worthwhile cause and I wish to encourage other cities to start this program. Please let others know about it and see if you can get involved. I am reposting this from the media company that represents them.

Noah’s Animal House (NAH), the first pet shelter in the country in partnership and next door to domestic violence shelters, announced they have served 2021 pets since the non-profit organization started in 2007. Founded by Staci Alonso and named after her son, Noah, NAH’s mission is to help families of domestic violence stay united with their pet after leaving their abuser. As part of serving 2021 pets, it has provided nearly 153,000 free boarding nights ensuring pets stay safe and united with their families while staying at their partner domestic violence shelters in both Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada.

Less than twenty percent of women’s shelters in the country offer pet support services to victims of domestic violence. Having to leave a loved pet behind is one of the most significant barriers to women and children fleeing their abuser; however, NAH has removed that barrier having served families from 34 states. In conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, NAH is launching a fundraiser to help support their full-service facilities including boarding, veterinary care, food, toys, and treats. A suggested donation amount of $20.21 provides treats for shelter pets for one month. Donations will be accepted through the end of 2021.

“When Noah’s opened, there was less than 3% of shelters that offered some type of pet service for victims. While we celebrate both our milestone of over 2000 pets sheltered and the growth to almost 20% of women’s shelters across the country over the last decade, we are still not where we need to be and we will continue to work to remove the “no pets allowed” signs on the remaining domestic violence centers’ doors,” said Noah’s Animal House founder Staci Alonso.

In 2019, NAH was catapulted into the national spotlight and recognized by “CNN Heroes” for its tireless work in helping families and their pets stay together.

“Congratulations to Noah’s Animal House. The Shade Tree is proud to celebrate our longest-standing partner and the joy they bring to our teams and most importantly to the clients we serve.  You are a true supporter, advocate, and community soldier in the fight against domestic violence,” said Linda Perez, CEO of The Shade Tree. “Because of you, our clients do not have to leave behind their most loving and trusted companion. They get to be together on their journey to healing. You are a blessing to this community and we are grateful to you. Thank you for being an amazing partner, neighbor, and friend. We celebrate you!”

“The Domestic Violence Resource Center is extremely proud of its partnership with Noah’s Animal House. Our goal is to help survivors feel confident enough to leave dangerous environments – being able to say, ‘yes, your pets are allowed’ means that more survivors feel that they can take this critically important step, without having to leave important family members behind. Having the capacity to provide this incredible service makes us all stronger,” said Denise Yoxsimer, Executive Director of Domestic Violence Resource Center in Reno. “We are grateful for Staci Alonso and the board of Noah’s Animal House for their inspiring vision and their incredibly generous spirit. Thank you, Noah’s, and congratulations on surpassing this meaningful milestone.”

ABOUT NOAH’S ANIMAL HOUSE (NAH)

The first NAH opened in 2007 next door and in partnership with The Shade Tree Shelter in Southern Nevada and expanded to its second location in 2018 in partnership with the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Northern Nevada. The two pet shelters are completely free to those staying at either domestic violence shelter and feature 86 total kennels to house the dogs and cats; on-site veterinary care, food, and cuddle rooms to allow families to enjoy time together in the comfort of a family living room setting. Tips for Honeymooning in the Mediterranean

You’ve probably been dreaming of a honeymoon featuring white sandy beaches and glimmering yachts. The average honeymoon only lasts a week due to financial and professional restraints, so it’s up to you and your partner to make the most of that time.

Your first vacation as a newlywed is an important one, and the Mediterranean is the picture-perfect place to begin your life together as a married couple. With all the stress of wedding planning, however, honeymoon planning often gets pushed to the side. To maximize your honeymoon experience, consider our top tips for honeymooning in the Mediterranean.

Plan the Details of Your Trip

When it comes to the specifics of your trip, it can be fun to go with the flow, waking up each morning and doing exactly as you please. However, some adventures must be planned for, like yacht charters, cooking classes, and lodging in some areas of Europe during the high season. Most travel planners advise beginning preparations at least six months before the big day if you plan to depart for your honeymoon immediately after.

It’s also smart to plan the timing of your trip. After all, the last thing you want is to arrive at the seaside in Barcelona only to find the waters ice cold and the shores deserted. For optimal weather and the full Mediterranean experience, visit in April through November.

When prepping for your honeymoon, it’s a good idea to prepare your electronics as well. Removing all distractions and unnecessary applications from your phone can help you maximize your time abroad. On the flip side, your phone is your means to communicate with friends and family back home and will also come in handy for making phone calls or handling potential emergencies while on vacation. Plan for international data usage, travel adapters, and security concerns when preparing your phone for vacation.

Create a Budget to Maximize Your Vacation Time

After all the time you’ve spent wedding planning, budget spreadsheets and price lists may make your heart rate soar. However, it’s important to maximize your honeymoon budget, and it doesn’t have to be nearly as stressful as you might think.

When creating a wedding budget, you likely paid attention to your own financial situation, spent time researching several options, tracked your spending, and saved where you could. It’s no different for your honeymoon budget! There are plenty of luxury islands dotting the Mediterranean, but there are also more low-cost, budget-friendly alternatives that are just as beautiful and convenient. Price versus location is always a delicate balance to strike, but when you properly plan both your wedding and honeymoon budgets, it’s easy to maximize your funds.

Consider a Destination Wedding

If a week of sailing around the Mediterranean doesn’t sound like enough of a wedding celebration to you, consider a destination wedding. Increasingly popular, destination weddings involve not just you and your partner but also all of your wedding invitees, including family and friends.

Combining your wedding and honeymoon into one is an unforgettable experience to share with your loved ones. Your wedding pictures will have a beautiful built-in backdrop, and a beachside wedding doesn’t limit you to the shore. There’s a boat, rental house, pier, or lighthouse somewhere in the Mediterranean with your name on it!

Weighing the pros and cons of a beachside wedding will help you and your partner decide if you want to say “I do” in an exotic locale or local venue. Some couples even choose to have a larger, official ceremony closer to home and a smaller, more intimate symbolic ceremony abroad.

Take Advantage of the Sun and Surf

The Mediterranean is famous for its stunning blue waters, and you’d be remiss not to spend time soaking in the sun and sea of the area. Countries like Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain repeatedly top the list for European honeymoon destinations, and it’s easy to see why.

These Mediterranean gems offer the perfect place to kick back, relax, and enjoy the sea. Boat outings allow tourists to explore even more of the small islands and coves for which the area is famous. Chartering a boat in Greece, for instance, provides you with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Santorini from the sea, splash around in secluded coves, go scuba diving, or even zip around in jet skis.

If land-based activities are more your speed, there’s no shortage of offerings there either. Gorgeous mountain terrain allows for splendid hiking opportunities and even extreme sports for adventurous couples. For a more low-key honeymoon, opt for relaxing experiences like a private romantic sunset tour in the Algarve. Exploring Portugal with your lifelong partner is a dream come true, and a gorgeous sunset view from the sea is the cherry on top.

These kinds of experiences can only be had amidst the deep-blue waters of the Mediterranean, with the salty sea air coursing through your hair. Choose the Mediterranean for an unforgettable honeymoon experience, and follow the above tips to enjoy a seamless, well-deserved vacation with your new spouse.
