6 Best Ways to Cozy up Your Home This Winter

Colder weather is an ideal time to stay at home and cozy up with a cup of hot tea and a good book. But to do so, your home needs to be a cozy place as well.

Fall and wintertime is the right time to make your home feel warm and comfortable. And to be able to do that, you need to know some interior design tricks.

If you’re interested, here are a few of the best ways to cozy up your home this winter.

  1. Cozy lighting

During late fall, days are shorter and nights longer. This means that natural lighting will be on the short side and you’ll need to find interesting ways to make up for the lack of sunlight.

Ambient lighting is the right way to go. Add different types of floor or table lamps that emit warm and soft light. Don’t be afraid to add them to the darker corners of your home to brighten them up a bit more.

Lighting candles and a fireplace, if you have one, can also brighten the space and add to the cozy atmosphere you’re going for.

  1. Warm carpets and rugs

A great way to bring coziness to your home during wintertime is with a nice, fluffy carpet or rug. Winter is a great time to switch your flat-weave rugs with something warmer like high pile rugs or carpets. Layering rugs on top of each other is another great way to add thickness to your floor and make them warmer.

Being warm underfoot is the epitome of coziness, so this is a must when trying to cozy up your home for wintertime. Don’t be afraid to add a rug to your bathroom, kitchen, and hall as well.

You can find a plethora of different kinds of rugs in a specialized carpet store, and during winter you can expect many great sales.

  1. Update window treatments

Replace your sheer curtains with something heavier and more patterned. A perfect way to add character and a dose of coziness to any room is with the right type of drapes. Not only are they a great way to add elegance to a room, but drapes also block the cold air from leaking into your home.

Choose something timeless like velvet drapes with a great pattern that will add character to your walls and make the room feel snug and cozy.

  1. Throw pillows and warm blankets

Layering throw pillows and pairing them with a warm blanket is a perfect way to add coziness to your sofas and in that way make them more inviting.

Source pillowcases with a lot of texture and dress your pillows for winter days. Chunky knit blankets are also a perfect addition to your sofa for the duration of colder weather.

Also, don’t be afraid to add fuzzy faux sheepskin spreads and drape them on your sofa or armchairs. You can use them on the floor as well. These spreads will immediately make your home feel like a cozy winter cabin.

  1. Layered bedding

Don’t forget to cozy up your bedroom as well. And to do this, all you need to do is layer your bedding. Add some extra layers by introducing heavier and warmer fabrics. Flannel and fleece bedspreads are ideal for colder months.

Add more cushions to your bed and a heavier blanket at the foot. Play around with the colour and texture of the winter bedding and throw pillows.

  1. Cover the tables

Adding tablecloths or runners to your dining room table is yet another great way to bring coziness to your home. If you don’t own any of these types of fabrics, be creative and use scarves or thin blankets as a substitute.

You may think that covering your table is not important, but the truth is that it can make a ton of difference and make the room feel super cozy.

Long, dark winter days can impact our mood negatively, that’s why making our home cozy and inviting is a great way to brighten up our days and make them less dreary.

As you can see, the whole process of making a home cozy is easy and it won’t break your budget – so why not do it?  It will make life brighter and warmer during the wintertime.
