Create New Positive Habits

Having positive habits is important. The impact that habits have on our lives can be the difference between being successful or not.

Now I’m a firm believer in inspiration and motivation, however inspiration is not sustainable. This is why building positive habits will help you to succeed. Habits are much more important than inspiration. The key is to break bad habits that affect your life and start building positive habits that will help you achieve your goals and aspirations.

Take the necessary steps to help you to get inspired, but remember habit is more dependable. It’s the habits that will sustain you even when you’re not inspired. Habits will either make or break us. Our habits will influence our daily living, our health, emotional well-being, and our outlook on life.

So as you are transitioning to more positive habits, the key is to start small. I found that most people won’t stick to habits if they’re too difficult to manage. It’s easier to start small and allow them to grow over time. The first step is to decide what your new habit is going to be. Stick to a pace that is sustainable and be patient. Big changes take time.

I made a decision years ago, because I was out of shape and overweight, to begin morning exercise. I started small and certainly have come a long way since then. Morning exercising has now become a habit for me.

As you are beginning these new habits, even though the immediate goals are small, allow yourself to dream big for the future. Write out what your ultimate objective is. Put together a plan with small steps on what it’s going to take to get there. In order to achieve big goals, you have to have ones for the short term. When you have a larger aim, you have something to focus on every day while working on the small steps.

Recognition and rewards are also part of the process. It’s important to be in a positive mindset while creating new habits. For each small victory you attain, reward yourself. We all like to be recognized and rewarded. When you receive a reward after making accomplishments, you’re more likely to repeat that action and form a positive routine. Once that routine becomes consistent, it has become a habit.

I guarantee you that along your journey, you will have challenges and obstacles. You will not be perfect while you are developing new habits. We all make mistakes but it’s important to get back on track quickly to avoid going back to where you were. Be prepared for the setbacks. If you miss a day, that’s okay. The important thing is to remain consistent and get back on course; your new habits will not stick if you do not. Never fall into the trap of procrastination. Make a commitment to be someone who never misses a habit twice.

As you begin this new positive change, understand that you’re not going to develop these new positive habits overnight. It takes time but the important thing is to stick to the commitment. A new habit takes on average 30 days to develop. Don’t get discouraged if you are struggling in the beginning. Stay positive and keep focused on your goal. You will find that very soon these positive new habits become part of who you are.

Today is the beginning of the rest of your positive life. Make it an awesome day!

Have a fantastic week!
