Stop Hitting the Snooze Button

It’s early in the morning and your alarm clock is going off. You know it’s time to get up but you decide to hit that snooze button trying to get a little more sleep.

I understand trying to get a few extra minutes of sleep every now and then but the reality is, hitting the snooze button will actually leave you feeling more tired during the day.

Now, I’m not a sleep study expert. However, when your alarm goes off in the morning, you are nearing the end of your last REM Cycle. When you hit that snooze button and go back to sleep, you are actually putting yourself right back into the cycle. When your alarm goes off the second time, it is now waking you up in the middle of REM instead of at the end of REM. So you may be thinking you’re getting extra sleep, but unfortunately you end up feeling disoriented.

So, I have a challenge for you going forward. Make the decision to stop hitting the snooze button. As soon as that alarm goes off, just get out of bed. You will find as time goes on, you’ll start your day feeling much more refreshed and ready to take on the day.

If you don’t feel you can do this right away, put the alarm on the other side of your bedroom so you actually have to get up to turn it off.

I’m also going to encourage you, starting today, to create a vision that makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning. It’s important to not hit the snooze button on your dreams and aspirations.

You have to create a reason to get out of bed in the morning. There is an exciting life out there waiting for you. As we get ready to start a new year, write out a vision board on what you would like to accomplish. Be specific in all areas of your life. Your vision board will get you excited about getting up in the morning. So when that alarm goes off, you’re not going to hit that snooze button. You have a purpose and you have a reason to get up and go make it happen.

While others are hitting the snooze button, you jump out of bed with excitement. Develop a positive morning routine and make a plan for your day the night before so you know exactly what you need to accomplish for the day. This way, you can’t afford to hit that snooze button. You’ve got some exciting things to do and goals to accomplish.

No more hitting that snooze button! Let’s get up with purpose and be ready to take on the day! Look in the mirror and say “Today is going to be an awesome day!“ You are living the dream!

Have a super fantastic week!
