Christmas has passed but the spirit of giving… and receiving continues because of Chris Cane and his friend Andre Kress of Corsa Moto Works through The CAANE Foundation.

An emotional Andre Kress, principal partner at Corsa Moto Works met with me to share about his friend Chris Cane and the legacy he left behind. A legacy, in my opinion, that has likely saved lives. Through The CAANE Foundation (Chris’ Advocate Assisting Novice Enthusiasts), riders who are not quite as well equipped as they should be for their protection can go to The CAANE Foundation and get outfitted for free or for a simple donation. The CAANE Foundation receives and donates hundreds of used and brand new or nearly new jackets, gloves, boots, and helmets. I have seen it with my own eyes, the place is filled with equipment.

There is no shame in going to The CAANE Foundation asking for help to get outfitted, or to do it for a friend or a relative who needs it! You are likely to save someone’s life or your own.

I was coming back from Tierra Verde, Florida, on my s1000rr a few weeks ago followed by another bike whose “pilot” seemed to think it was a good idea for him and his female companion to ride 100mph+ no helmet, sandals, shorts, and t-shirt on. Chris Cane aka the “Gear Police” would have lost his bearings to see this guy. This “pilot” clearly wanted to race with me so in an attempt to defuse his stupidity, I slowed right down. This blue tone R1 straight short pipes “pilot” clearly needed safety gear. More importantly, he needed some additional brain cells.

The Fran Haasch Law Group is currently assisting The CAANE Foundation to set up as a charity organization. Andre Kress is determined to keep Chris’ legacy going. Staff, clients, and volunteers help. Clients have come in simply to purchase new gear and donate it, some give their used gear, and some even give brand new tires. If you are in need, there is a way through The CAANE Foundation. I think of riders whose only mode of transport is two wheels and this could really make a difference.

Andre Kress, former founder of MANX Motorsports now principal partner of Corsa Moto Works located in Clearwater, Florida, specializes in European bikes as well as other brands of speed bikes, vintage and classic restorations. Kress met Cane back in 2010–Cane was one of Kress’ first clients if not the first. They both shared the same passions and values and they both had Triumph’s Daytona 675. Another true “Collision of Dreams” Relics Retreats “A Collision of Dreams” © took place. Both became brothers, hence the emotional Kress during our talk for this editorial. Corsa Moto Works’ values have been greatly influenced by Kress’s profound respect for danger.  They cut no corners and they will do what they can to help riders “change statistics”.

All that said, you need gear? You can’t afford it? Or you know someone who needs gear who can’t afford it and you can’t either? Touch base with The CAANE foundation. For those of us who can afford to donate, you would not be making a mistake by doing so, I assure you.

I wish you all a superb year 2022. Count your blessings for living in Florida riding all year round, and be thankful for the fearless leadership of our sunshine state.

KIDZ KORNA

KIDZ KORNA., FLAGS OF THE HEART AND THRILLER DANCE 2300 hosted a toy drive in front of Michael Jackson‘s childhood home.

The event was organized by Mother Diva, who says she is stage mom to the King of Pop’s daughter Paris Jackson. Hot chocolate, cookies, and MJ’s favorite, Krispy Kreme donuts were served.

Guest Speakers were Delece Williams, Executive Director of Kidz Korna NFP and former NFL player Reggie L. Smith, who is the vice president of the Chicago Chapter of The National Football League Players Association and happens to share the same birthday as Michael Jackson, August 29.

Children and adults received free toys, clothes, shoes, and household items. Some teens received laptops and one teen received a bike.

Thriller Dance 2300 plans to make this an annual event. “I know that the Jacksons as children were not able to receive presents for Christmas due to their parents’ strict religious beliefs as practicing Jehovah Witnesses. Joe Jackson kept the boys busy working on Christmas, performing, to keep their minds occupied on show business. I can only imagine how sad Michael Jackson was as a child to look out of the window and see other children opening presents and all the houses on the block decorated. I believe in my heart he would want us to give to children and families in his hometown who have no resources,” said Mother Diva.

Create New Positive Habits

Having positive habits is important. The impact that habits have on our lives can be the difference between being successful or not.

Now I’m a firm believer in inspiration and motivation, however inspiration is not sustainable. This is why building positive habits will help you to succeed. Habits are much more important than inspiration. The key is to break bad habits that affect your life and start building positive habits that will help you achieve your goals and aspirations.

Take the necessary steps to help you to get inspired, but remember habit is more dependable. It’s the habits that will sustain you even when you’re not inspired. Habits will either make or break us. Our habits will influence our daily living, our health, emotional well-being, and our outlook on life.

So as you are transitioning to more positive habits, the key is to start small. I found that most people won’t stick to habits if they’re too difficult to manage. It’s easier to start small and allow them to grow over time. The first step is to decide what your new habit is going to be. Stick to a pace that is sustainable and be patient. Big changes take time.

I made a decision years ago, because I was out of shape and overweight, to begin morning exercise. I started small and certainly have come a long way since then. Morning exercising has now become a habit for me.

As you are beginning these new habits, even though the immediate goals are small, allow yourself to dream big for the future. Write out what your ultimate objective is. Put together a plan with small steps on what it’s going to take to get there. In order to achieve big goals, you have to have ones for the short term. When you have a larger aim, you have something to focus on every day while working on the small steps.

Recognition and rewards are also part of the process. It’s important to be in a positive mindset while creating new habits. For each small victory you attain, reward yourself. We all like to be recognized and rewarded. When you receive a reward after making accomplishments, you’re more likely to repeat that action and form a positive routine. Once that routine becomes consistent, it has become a habit.

I guarantee you that along your journey, you will have challenges and obstacles. You will not be perfect while you are developing new habits. We all make mistakes but it’s important to get back on track quickly to avoid going back to where you were. Be prepared for the setbacks. If you miss a day, that’s okay. The important thing is to remain consistent and get back on course; your new habits will not stick if you do not. Never fall into the trap of procrastination. Make a commitment to be someone who never misses a habit twice.

As you begin this new positive change, understand that you’re not going to develop these new positive habits overnight. It takes time but the important thing is to stick to the commitment. A new habit takes on average 30 days to develop. Don’t get discouraged if you are struggling in the beginning. Stay positive and keep focused on your goal. You will find that very soon these positive new habits become part of who you are.

Today is the beginning of the rest of your positive life. Make it an awesome day!

Have a fantastic week!

6 Problems an MRI Scan Can Detect

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is a very common medical test because doctors can use it to detect and scan for numerous types of health issues. It uses radio waves, a strong magnetic field, and a computer to produce derailed images of the body’s structures and organs. The MRI devices and related techniques are always being improved, so doctors and researchers can use them in new and helpful ways. Here are some of the issues and problems for which MRI scans are useful.

Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue injuries are quite common in people who exercise or do other training. In many cases, an x-ray can be used to detect injuries and issues related to soft tissue, such as torn ligaments, but the damage or injury might be too subtle to see on an x-ray.

An MRI provides superior contrast resolution for both tissues and bones, which makes it a great tool for the detection of subtle soft tissues injuries. Some of these injuries include nerve compression, joint inflammation, cartilage loss, and many others.

An MRI can be used to diagnose soft tissue pain that is undetectable using other means and techniques, and whose origin is not obvious when using these other techniques.

Spinal Injuries

The MRI remains the most important tool in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal injuries. An MRI becomes the ideal tool in these cases because a CT (computed Tomography) is not ideal for soft tissue structure examinations. An MRI test can illuminate the vertebrae, spinal cord, and related muscles to help pinpoint various spinal injury complications. These can include disc herniation, hemorrhage, pinched nerves, and other related issues. MRI scans have been used to put together surgical plans for complicated spinal injuries, with surgeons using MRI images to pinpoint where to cut and where to focus on during their surgeries.

Cancer

An MRI can be used to detect certain types of cancers such as prostate, breast, and certain types of lung cancer. An MRI can help doctors differentiate between cancerous cells and non-cancerous cells, so they can start putting together a treatment plan. These tests can also be used to help doctors find out if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body if the cancer was not caught early.

Because of how useful MRI tests are at detecting cancer early, doctors recommend that you go for an annual full body MRI test. The full body MRI scan provided by Ezra is a great option because, in addition to screening for cancer, it also screens for other types of diseases. Apart from the full body MRI scan, Ezra also provides lung CT scans for the detection of lung cancer and other abnormalities in the chest.

Internal Organ Damage

An MRI is also an indispensable tool in the detection of internal organ damage. The MRI can examine various body organs including the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, spleen, and others to determine if there is damage. If there is damage, the MRI can be used to check the extent of the damage as well as complications that can make surgeries and repairs more complicated.

In this application, the MRI is used in case of an accident, and this can complicate the imaging process. An MRI requires that patients remain still, and injured patients can move around. Pain medication and sedatives can be used, but these can further complicate injuries. Other tools such as x-rays and CT scans might be recommended instead.

Issues with the Brain

MRI is also a great tool for the detection of problems in the brain. Here, it can be used to detect issues such as:

  • Brain tumors – It can give a precise location so the tumor can be excised.
  • Traumatic brain injuries – In this case, it can be used to show the extent of the damage, so doctors can start making plans for their patients.
  • Aneurysms – Aneurysms are bulges in blood vessels that are caused by the weakening of blood vessel walls. Aneurysms can be serious and even fatal when they burst in important areas such as the brain. An MRI is used to check for aneurysms that have not yet burst. Aneurysms are screened in people who are at risk of one bursting in the future, but not for everyone because of how difficult it is to predict when they could burst.
  • Infections – Usually seen through inflammation of tissues in the brain.
  • Causes of persistent headaches.

Cardiovascular Issues

An MRI can be used to detect blocked blood vessels, malformations in the arteries and veins, and carotid artery disease. All of these are serious conditions that can be fatal if left unchecked and undetected.

Going for regular MRI scans is crucial for anyone who values their health. An MRI can be used to detect issues such as cancer before they become untreatable. They can also be used to diagnose issues after the fact, such as persistent pain caused by a prior soft tissue injury.

Announcements From Las Vegas

Oakland A’s Ballpark may be coming to the Tropicana

The Tropicana Las Vegas opened in April of 1957 and has been a Vegas icon ever since. Is it possible that it could be imploded within a year and become a ballpark? That would make it the busiest street corner in the world, with The Park, Excalibur, MGM, T-Mobile, and Allegiant Stadium just over the bridge.

That is the current rumor as the Oakland A’s have their eyes set on only three places, and the Trop is in the running at number one.

The A’s moving from Oakland to Vegas is still a definite possibility, but this is the first time we have heard about a 30 to 40 thousand-seat stadium being built on the Strip.

Yes, Virginia, Even Dogs Have a Santa Claus!

Siblings, Max & Lulu, always wanted to live with one another.

And you’re asking, “So why is this significant? People do that all the time.”

“Ah yes,” said the man with the rosy cheeks, long flowing white beard with a topper of a crimson red hat topped off with a snowball, “BUT we’re not talking about two-legged creatures rather those with four.”

The equation is dramatically different when we’re talking about DOGS or >2<5 =4 appendages. DOG the anagram for something so much greater, with the distinction of being man’s best friend, does at times dream and wish for a life filled with the love of a sibling, a mate, another special dog in their life.

In the case of Max & Lulu – you don’t dare try to separate them. As a volunteer at West Suburban Humane Society, I’m very much aware of how WSHS allowed Max & Lulu to live in adjoining pens with access to each other via a doorway that connected their living spaces. When they went into the recreation yards, they went together – they’re a team and, you don’t break up a great team.

I’m sure that Max & Lulu had to have noticed the other dogs leaving WSHS for permanent homes, but neither pup wanted to live without the other. Kudos to the folks at WSHS for having the heart and fortitude to keep a promise they made to Max & Lulu – you’ll either stay with us or you’ll go together, but WE at WSHA won’t separate you TWO.

It’s Christmas, and I always get weepy hearing stories about man’s humanity on behalf of their fellow man during a season when we all wish nothing but the best for men of goodwill — BUT — this story takes the CAKE in my opinion.

Lulu & Max got their Christmas WISH.

I’m not sure how much Santa was involved but I’ve got to think he had something to do with Max & Lulu being adopted by wonderful people who wanted to GO DO GOOD.

May the ALMIGHTY bless Max & Lulu, WSHS, and the man & woman of goodwill who committed to the promise that the pups go together as tight as an ampersand — MAX & LULU — joined at the hip in a forever home.

Now, isn’t that one of the best Christmas Carols you could ever hope to sing about.

Dolce & Chianti Has Added Brunch

DOLCE & CHIANTI, who I wrote about in September, have now added on a Saturday and Sunday brunch. This elegant restaurant, with the Lemon accents everywhere, treated me to a brunch today. With their beautiful front room decorated with a snow white and gold Christmas tree, the atmosphere is perfect for anytime.

Owner Inga Davidian, along with her chef Risson Medina were there to make sure every detail was to perfection. Inga currently owns two restaurants in the Kirkland area of Washington state.

Dolce & Chianti is the most beautifully decorated restaurant I have seen in a long time.  Fresh, bright, beautiful blue colors and a taste of “Lemon” throughout. Yes, lemon is everywhere. On the walls, in photos, in bowls, and it brings such a wonderful feel. Look at the photo below, all plates are lemons.

The brunch items I tried included a Blueberry Spinach salad, with plenty of toasted sliced almonds, feta cheese, mint and a maple vinaigrette, and an Italian sausage Frittata with onions, mushrooms, and Mozzarella. There were large portions of the Burrata Avocado Toast with avocado mouse, red onions, cucumber, baby heirlooms, house vinaigrette, greens, and toasted Pine nuts. Not to be outdone, we finished off with Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with toasted pine nuts, lemon mint whipped cream, powered sugar, and blueberries. You should not miss this fine place, and as I said before dinner is not to be outdone in any Las Vegas restaurant.

The restaurant was open for only a few months before everyone shut down, but now it is back to life with new dishes. I attended the party, where I got to sample some wonderful bites alongside a terrific band.

Regularly on the menu is Summer Tomato with angel hair, fresh summer tomatoes, basil, and herbs; Seafood with mussels, prawns, Calabrian chili butter, garlic, pasta, and light tomato; Gnocchi al Fungi; Eggplant Parmesan; Veal Milanese and Seared Salmon to name a few. Lemon Ricotta cheesecake Salted Caramel Budino, and Espresso Panna Cotta are delicious finishing touches. They have plenty of shareables, including fresh mussels, Calamari Fritto, Marinated Olives & house pickles, or Jumbo Prawns. With salads and pizza, there is no end to the menu.

A highly praised selection of liquors and wines are at the round bar, and there is evening music Tuesday through Saturday. Located on the West side at 4275 S. Durango, please make reservations. Great place for a wedding dinner.  702-749-6534. #Chianti

Sustainable Weddings: 10 Top Methods and Tricks for an Eco-Friendly, Magical Day

Sustainability is a vital consideration in 2022. With our impact on the planet becoming increasingly clear, it is crucial to incorporate sustainable practices into every facet of our lives – including major milestones like weddings. Fortunately, there are many ways to ensure your big day has a minimal impact on the environment.

As with all elements of a wedding, it will require careful consideration and planning to make your wedding day eco-friendly. Here are some of our top tips to help you achieve your dream wedding sustainably.

Wear A Vintage Dress

Shopping second hand and vintage can be a great way to reduce the impact your fashion choices have on the environment. Vintage dresses can also create a beautiful wedding aesthetic and can become a treasured family heirloom to pass down to future generations. It is best to look for a dress that suits your requirements and have it altered to fit if you need to.

Choose An Eco-Friendly Venue

When selecting your venue, you should ask questions about the space’s sustainability practices. Include queries about their recycling policies, what they do with food waste, and how energy efficient their business is. You could also ask who their suppliers are. It is best to choose a venue as eco-conscious as you are and use local suppliers.

Avoid A Destination Wedding

Destination weddings can be magical, but the emissions caused by guests traveling long distances to get to the wedding location can be a huge contributor to your wedding’s overall carbon footprint. It is best to have your wedding in a local area, where most guests won’t have to fly or travel too far by car to get to the location. You could also consider hiring coaches to get your guests to the venue and avoid multiple vehicles making the trip.

Use Local Suppliers

It is crucial to shop locally when choosing caterers, cake makers, florists, and other essential wedding services. Not only will this help out local businesses, but it will also reduce the carbon footprint of your wedding. You could consider looking for various suppliers within a set radius of your home to ensure that the distance traveled is minimal.

Go Digital With Invites

Invites are an integral part of any wedding. You can reduce the amount of waste paper and other materials associated with your wedding by choosing to send your invites digitally. There are plenty of options for a classy, chic and high-quality digital wedding invite. Check out some of the beautiful event invitation options from Greenvelope for some fantastic inspiration.

Make The Wedding Breakfast Vegan

The wedding meal is another crucial element of the day. As more and more people go vegan for eco-conscious reasons, you could consider making your wedding breakfast a vegan one. There are so many incredible recipes to suit any taste, making vegan cuisine the perfect eco-friendly choice for your wedding. You should contact several caterers who offer vegan options and do some taste testing to find the right fit.

Switch Out The Confetti

Instead of traditional confetti, choose a biodegradable alternative to avoid adding harmful waste to the environment around your venue. Some excellent options include birdseed, flower petals, and rice. You should do some research to find the perfect choice. For instance, you could look for flower petals that match the blooms in your bouquet to create the ideal matching aesthetic.

Ask For Charity Donations Instead Of Gifts

While gifts can be a great way to get you started in married life, the emissions caused by the production and delivery of gifts can be significant. As most people live together before getting married nowadays, many of the traditional gifts are no longer as useful as they were for past generations.

You could ask instead for donations to a favorite charity. This can cut down on emissions related to your wedding and help raise money for a good cause. For additional eco points, you could choose a local environmental charity.

Pick Seasonal Flowers

When selecting the flowers for your wedding, it can be beneficial to consider the blooms that will be in season when your wedding takes place. You could even plan your wedding date based on when the flowers you want will be available.

Choosing flowers that are not in season means that they will have to be grown in artificial conditions, which can hugely impact the environment. You should select flower suppliers that source local blooms to cut down on the emissions from the transportation of the flowers.

Choose Ethical Makeup Brands

When selecting your makeup look for the big day, it can be beneficial to choose brands known for being ethical and sustainable. The beauty industry is a major contributor to pollution globally, so finding brands that are actively working to reduce their contribution to climate change is crucial. You should research the brands available and determine what steps they take to be sustainable, what materials they use and whether they are zero-waste companies.
