Ways to Overcome a Setback

It’s a New Year! That means you can start fresh with new opportunities. You’re putting the past behind you and you are ready to take on your new challenges.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? But what happens when a setback comes? I hope you noticed that I said “WHEN a setback comes.” The reality is that no matter how good things seem, we all will experience some sort of misfortune.

The truth is, the success journey is filled with ups and downs along the way. This is why learning how to overcome setbacks is very important.

A setback can appear in so many different forms. It can be financial, health, relationship issues, or even personal loss. It can also be not getting that promotion or raise you felt that you deserved. Setbacks are part of life.

The first step is to understand that setbacks are normal and everyone will face them. Some people unfortunately have larger ones to face than others. Life certainly is not fair. Knowing that everyone experiences setbacks lets us know that it is something everyone can expect to happen in life.

When a problem does arise, look at it head on and acknowledge it. This will help you to start to deal with it honestly and productively. It may seem difficult but you will overcome the setback.

A good thing to do is remind yourself of past setbacks and how you got through them. Even though some scenarios may have seemed pretty tough, you made it through. This does not mean it’s easy, but it does let you know that you will survive. It’s not pleasant to have to deal with a setback but if you address things with sincerity and a positive attitude, you will be able to overcome it.

Perhaps you may be going through a setback right now. Welcome to the journey of success! Let me encourage you that you will get through it. Expecting and recognizing setbacks are the first important steps to dealing with them. When you find that you’re going through a difficult time, keep your vision looking forward. Don’t play the blame game. Instead of asking the question “Why?”, ask the question “what?” What can I learn from this setback? Don’t waste time regretting things you cannot change. Make a commitment and work hard to try something new.

The setback is just a set up for your success, it’s all part of your journey. Never allow yourself to be defeated and keep working towards your goals. Your future looks incredible—understand that setbacks are part of the process of building your character. I wish you great success!

Have a super fantastic week!
